The PSP's true battery life is...

Yeah, I know I stole this straight the boards at OCRemix, but whatever.

Anyhow, GameInformer is finally good for something, as they interviewed Kaz Hirai about this PSP.

Here's what he had to say about battery life...

Game Informer: One thing I was a little confused about in the presentation was the battery life. At first you said ten hours and then you seemed to say it could be as short as two and I just wanted to clarify...

Kaz: Battery life is one of these things where if you state a number then everybody's satisfied. The only problem, of course, is it never matches what you state. But if you don't state a number then it's like, "What's the battery life?" So it's a continuous Catch-22. And that's especially prevalent with the PlayStation Portable because it plays various entertainment content. Again, if you're just listening to music with no visuals at all then it should last, as I said yesterday, about eight to ten hours just like an iPod would. If you are playing a game that is consistently cycling through and putting the CPU to good use, yeah, battery life is going to be shorter. Maybe about two and a half, three hours. That's why putting the range in there... because it's more difficult because it's got a wide range of applications to really pinpoint to say, "It's eight hours." Because it could be longer, or it could be shorter, and by dramatic margins up or down.

gba sp's batter life with light on is 10 hours, with it off its 18 hours. normal gba had 15 hours. im bettin ds will have 10 or more than 10. 2.5 isnt that long, but if i ithnk about it when im goin places i dont play my gba for that long. 30 mins max b4 i get tired of it. unless its metroid.

Catch-22 w/the PSP is prevelant eh..no kiddin...can't play anything but sonys music files...blah *hugs iPod*

  7. If Nintendo added a CompactFlash slot to the DS, I'd buy one fo sho, yo. Especially if a program was released that made it where you could play DivX videos or something.

  8. 2-3 hours battery life for playing videogames? Damn ... so you'd have to dish out around $300 for the PSP, around $30-40 on a game and then like $20-30 worth of good batteries every month.

    That's expensive.

I heard a sony rep talking about putting out a 300 watt generator the would allow the PSP to even make it.......oh this is good...to make it last at least 10.00001 hours

    Oh there good!

It runs on a rechargable battery.

Yea I know, but for a handheld to have the battery life of 2.5 -10 is crappy
The DS is approx 10. There are no other variables thrown in there And if you can't understand a joke then I won't make any more

2 hours is way to short, especially when I play my gba on long car, ones that last alot more then 2 hours. Wouldn't last me long enough

I know to people like us this is a big deal, but in the long run I don't think it'll affect sales that much. I guarantee most of the people who buy this won't be playing for more than 2 hours at a time anyway.

  17. Most people who buy it won't be aware it only has 2.5-3.0 hours of batterly life, this game is meant to appeal towards casual gamers and people who think it's a all-in-one machine, they will be the main buyers at first. But that's some horrible battery time, I'd stick with a PS2, and use DS on the go.

The PSP will prosper thanks to mainstream losers.

Eew, only 2 hours? I play my GBA up to 10 hours straight sometimes (we go on a lot of car trips). So during a long car trip the PSP will only last me 2 hours then I have to wait before I can recharge it? Thats gay.

Most PSP gamers won't play it for 2 hours at a time but they won't put the batteries on the charger after every game session either. It will hit them and it will piss them off.

Think of school. 10 minutes before school at home, 20 minutes on the bus to school, a round in class to show it off, lunch, one more class to show it off, bus return from school and you have 5 minutes of battery left.
