    Xbox in Mexico

Since Xbox did launch in North America first it's really a surprise that Mexico didn't also get the system in November, if you also consider where Xbox systems are manufactured that is. Today however, despite how confusing it might seem, Xbox has finally launched in Mexico. The system retails for 2,999 pesos ($299 USD), and is currently available at 500 retail outlets across the country. For reference, some of the retailers the system's available at include: Blockbuster, Carrefour, Costco, El Palacio de Hierro, Game Planet, Julio Cepeda, Liverpool, Mix-Up, Sanborn's, Sam'S Club, Sears, and Wal-Mart.

Its being released for 299$...that seems odd that they wouldn't just keep it at the same slashed price that its got in the US

Starting today, Mexican consumers will be able to buy the limited edition Xbox package in over 500 stores for 2,999 pesos. The package, which also includes Sega GT 2002 and Jet Set Radio Future, and is also available here in the US, has been so well received that all units used for the promotion have sold out.

Microsoft seems dedicated in penetrating the Mexican market by offering tech-support and warranties through Microsoft Mexico, and by including Spanish language manuals with all games sold in Mexico.

"We are offering Mexico's consumers a whole new world of digital entertainment", said Luis Sandi, Director of Microsoft Mexico's Home and Entertainment Division. "We are strongly committed to the Mexican market, and we aim to satisfy the needs and preferences of video game fans with our dedication to variety, visibility, availability, technical support and great price."

Microsoft promises over 200 games available for 399 pesos by the end of the year, which will include such hits as Halo, DOA 3, and Blinx the Time Sweeper. So after you get your shiny new Xbox, check back to IGN Xbox for all your Xbox needs.

uh? lol... cool... bad thing is that i saw Halo at a mall at the price of $500 (dollars) and the xbox.. dunoo... heh.. but it was a place that was not mentioned on that report, so maybe thats why..

games for 399 pesos? man! i have to get an xbox! but it still seems to me very rare to see an xbox game at 399 pesos... and that price is plus taxes... and taxes are evil so that gives a total of like one thousand pesos.... i think... and a system is much more expensive.

Like my Gamecube... it is $199 (the original, right?) but taxes made it grow to $550.. oh well... same with games, they should be like 52 (with taxes) and here, in Mexico, a game with taxes is 90-100 dollars... yes that sucks...

oh also... in my classroom there are 15 guys with a Gamecube... all of them also have a PS2 (except me) and just like 3 have an XBox... but that is not bad... and we actually never fight to see which console has better games, we all support all the nice games and make Xbox owners buy (sadly, illegaly) a Gamecube or a PS2 just to play certain game... heh... its cool

The perfect world is where people buy illegal goods? Oh yeah, can't wait for that. And the XBox is $299 in Mexico because there's a lot of other stuff thrown in besides the two games.
