Seriously though, you're right. And that's part of my point. ********** isn't a quiet, mediocre portable game that makes a mockery of the series. It's a big, loud, looking-to-be-shitty main console game that makes a mockery of the series.

Seriously, do we fear change THAT much?
I refer you to Nintendo and Wind Waker. Or for those of you with your Shiggy-goggles on (Viper), the Virtual Boy (not a game, I know, but the point still stands).

Good God, man. Give me some credit here. The Virtual Boy sucked. Not sure why you'd assume I liked it.

As for Wind Waker, get past the machismo boner shrinker and you'll find a damn good game....just a bit too much sailing.

The current US government is the type of government the founding fathers fought against and warned us about.

    I approve Viper's post...Wind Waker>TP
“Had the religion of Christianity been preserved according to the ordinances of the Founder, the state and commonwealth of Christendom would have been far more united and happy than they are. Nor can there be a greater proof of its decadence than the fact that the nearer people are to the Church, the head of their religion, the less religious are they.”

  4. And I approve AC!D the person's post. AC!D (the game) was a very cool take on the franchise and I found it very fun to play. Granted I only played for like 2 hours though (wasn't my psp nor my copy, would have loved to play more).

I know the Virtual Boy sucked. I was using it as an example of Nintendo's bumbling, since I knew you wouldn't acknowledge Wind Waker as one, due to the "Shiggy-goggles".

I don't attack Wind Waker for being emasculating. I attack it, more specifically it's style, for being childish, shallow, lacking detail, etc.

Personally, one of the main reasons I am against this game is because since its inception it felt soulless and like noone wanted to have anything to do with it, especially Kojima. Add to that it's development history and how could you NOT be skeptical?

    :head-desk:

THE WHOLE POINT was for Kojima to pass on a project to his team so he could pass the MGS torch. He wants the franchise to outlive him, which is the endgame of any great creative person. He was going to give them MGS5 but decided that'd be too much pressure for them, so they developed the idea for Rising. The problem was, the development team lacked any real leadership, regardless of Kojima's involvement.

Everyone's painting this picture like Kojima was going to be involved, but the project stunk so bad that he jumped ship. The point wasn't 'Kojima's not involved because it sucks and he doesn't want any part of it, his name's still on the game as producer; the point was to pass MGS onto the next generation of devs at Konami. But they lacked any kind of leadership to unify the team in one solid direction. It's a spinoff game, Kojima himself insisted to his team that they didn't have to put stealth in it, but they were stuck in that loop of trying to design a stealth action game where you could cut everything (which to their mounting horror, they succeeded in creating an engine where you could cut everything).

They were trying to make an action game and it wasn't coming together.
So Kojima started a collaboration with THE TOP TIER ACTION GAME DEVS IN JAPAN. They're working together and Koji-Pro is still in charge of the story.
Why everyone is so down on this game confuses the hell out of me. It looks like a fucking awesome action game and I can't wait to throw Metal Gears into the air and slice them to pieces. It's Raiden the cyborg ninja doing cyborg ninja shit. Not like it's Snake running around doing all this ridiculous stuff. I mean... I don't even...

I guess I'm the only one who watched that great 25 minute interview and got a great feeling about the game afterwards.
    Or watched it at all?

So not having leadership, direction, anyone that made the previous games great is suppose to make me feel better about this game because well it's ok..he is trying to pass on the torch? Give me a fucking break. If the game actually was going anywhere, and didn't from the get go look like it was going nowhere maybe I would be more optimistic about it.

Ok, so instead of being shelved Platinum picks it up and now it's an actual game (in theory). That's fantastic and all but to me there has been nothing shown so far to make me think that the game will be amazing. Do I think that it could be a good action game now that Platinum is involved? Sure. Will it actually be? Too early to tell. So far all the bitching you are directing to anyone NOT in love with the game yet, what exactly have you seen that got you so convinced it will be great? Last I checked, there was still not a massive amount of gameplay footage out there to make a judgement either way. My point is given the history of the game, and the lack of senior devs from previous MGS games involvement I am skeptical. I would be about any game with such a history.

nice summary...i agree that most forum comments are overly negative, but tbh, I just didn't see a good game in the latest trailer, nothing about it screamed out something I wanted to play, very "meh" to me...but that was a while ago, looking forward to the update, DMC has improved a lot over the course of a year, so we'll see...

Still even with your explanation, that still doesn't imply the game will turn out good... just sayin

Whoa whoa whoa. Only Kojima stepped aside. Shinkawa was still on staff. The whole damn metal gear team was on the project. The writer for MGS was on the project. Kojima didn't make MGS by himself.
He lead a team of extremely talented people. The fact that the project wasn't coming together speaks more to the fact that (1) game development is hard, (2) the project wasn't cursed it just lacked the right leadership.

I don't expect anyone to be "in love" with the damn thing, but the level of downright hate and if anything, lack of faith in Koji-Pro and Platinum, two of the best in the world, is like.... I don't even know. The "little bit" of gameplay footage we've seen from the Platinum version looks great to me. Honestly the 10-15 seconds of seeing him man-handle a Ray like that looped over and over for 3 minutes would have been all I needed to get excited. It also helps that I actually like Raiden. So that's one hang up I know a lot of people have that I never did. :/ And when we were all wondering what MGS4 would be about back in 2004 I totally called him returning as the ninja. Just saiyan. I'll never let that go. XD

For me it's just this: a) Raiden game b) Not a stealth game (i.e. like ALL the previous MG games) and c) a Raiden game (after getting a lot of hate and getting a were forced redesign in MGS4, now he's supposedly "cool" again? I don't think so) and d) NOT A FUCKING STEALTH GAME!

I said as soon as the Platinum announcement came that with them on board the game at least could end up being good whatever it is. I don't hate it, I don't hate the idea of it (even though action isn't my thing). But at the same time I am not excited for it, and I am skeptical. When I think of Metal Gear I don't think of Ninja Gaiden, Bayonetta, or games like that, I think of a stealth game, or at least a game where stealth is a choice. If this was a stealth action game I would care a lot more, but even as it is I don't have to hate it I am just personally not excited for it. Doesn't mean you can't be, but for me a new Metal Gear game is usually a massive deal and something I can't wait to play and this time this is not the case. I HOPE the game is good because I don't want the Metal Gear name to be tarnished, but at the same time it will be something I play (Because I play everything Metal Gear) but it is not something that I think I will love, like the rest of the games in the series.

P.S. I do like Raiden, and have since MGS2 :P

It's as if they made the next Forza game a Burnout-esque faximile, where all the cars aren't licensed anymore, and the game is called "Forza Motorsport Supreme".

It's clearly a spin-off title based on Raiden though....No one should see this as MGS5...No one DOES see this as MGS5, definitely no-one at Konami. It's a spin off game about a ninja cyborg. A. ninja. cyborg.

Wait till we see more at least. E3 soon.

And even *IF* it is shit, it will not tarnish the brand, as I will use the excuse, "this is NOT 'MGS', it's 'MG'"

And to be fair it's not like Raiden's story was award winning stuff in MGS4. So even if they shit on it, they'll just be shitting on Raiden.

  17. If it comes out hot garbage then it's a write off and we can all pretend it never happened. I just don't see that happening considering the talent involved. Wooooo!

I will laugh when it turns out to be like MGS2. Everyone thinks they are going to be playing as Raiden. After the opening chapter however it switches and you are playing as grey fox the entire game after he breaks in to save raiden when he was jack the ripper. Then you will all shit your pants with the awesomeness of playing as grey fox.

  19. Hahahaha that would be epic.
