New Tekken 6 details..
Tekken 6 executive producer Katsuhiro Harada has revealed that the upcoming brawler will incorporate a specific online feature that hasn’t been done before in previous iterations of the series.
"We're currently developing an online feature other than online versus [mode]--something that we haven't done before. It's going smoothly so far, but I can't go into any details at this moment,” Harada told Gamespot.
Elsewhere, Harada confirmed that the home console release will include a variety of mini games and additional game modes that have become a staple of the franchise over the past decade.
"Building on that experience, we plan to have a major console mode. In addition to this main mode, other modes that are a staple of the series will be back, along with new and exciting features. In any case, Tekken 6 is not about just the game's versus mode. There is a lot of console-specific content to enjoy,” he said.
He also briefly commented on the reaction among fans in light of the series migration to multiple platforms, noting feedback was generally positive, with many consumers not at all bothered by the fact the game is no longer exclusive to PlayStation 3.
Tekken 6 is due out in fall 2009.
Mass Effect 2 expected to be multiplatform and Battlefield Bad Company 2 announced
Blu-ray market penetration reaches record highElectronic Arts’ latest financial earnings call has confirmed that the next installment in the Mass Effect series is already underway. According to EA boss John Riccitiello, the sequel to the popular science fiction adventure will be released on "multiple platforms," though didn't divulge any further information on the matter.
Going beyond the topic of the Mass Effect 2 tidbit, Riccitiello also confirmed the development and release window for Battlefield Bad Company's sequel. Gamers can expect to see Mass Effect 2 and Bad Company hit retail shelves some time between January and March 2010. While this is still a significant amount of time away, it's never too early to build up the anticipation.
Stay tuned for more developments as they break.
Finally Sacred 2 console version delayed to 2009 Quater 2, Dragon age Origins delayed and Godfather 2 delayed to not coincide with the release of big hitters Fear2, KZ2 and Street Fighter 4 in February.Blu-ray sales represented 17% of the overall home video market on the week ending January 25, according to Nielsen First Alert data reported in Home Media Magazine.
This is a record high for Sony's high-definition video format, just overtaking the previous record of 16%, which was also achieved in January. It appears that the vast amount of Blu-ray players sold over the holiday are undoubtedly being used.
Last year's estimates that Blu-ray will overtake DVD in 2012 appear to be right on track, despite the current global recession
Was there ever any doubt?Blu-ray market penetration reaches record high

Nice idea. There used to be a rumors thread but it died, and sometimes there really is no reason to make a new thread.

I like the idea, too, since there are little tid bits of news that aren't worth starting a thread over.
PS. the Tekken online mode is probably for the the extra wacky game modes like bowling or something. I can not get excited at all with anything online in Tekken since DR's online is absolutely horrible. Namco should be ashamed of such garbage level net-code...

This wasnt the main point of his interview because he was talking about Sony suffering in the current Financial climate but the parts i quoted were interesting. It would seem there are even more apps coming for PS3 and the movie/music download service seems to be slowly approaching at snails pace.
Sony will most likely reduce PS3 component costs in the middle of the year by replacing the current 65 nanometre Cell chip with a 45 nanometre one, he added.
Reeves also said that PS3 will move closer to fulfilling its potential as a home entertainment system later this year when "more non-game apps appear", including video and music downloads.
Killzone 2 has already sold 1.1 million pre orders in Europe as of last week before the 2 million add campaign has even begun.

RIP "Free Radical" As Developers Get A Name ChangeIt's billed as "a highly stylised hand-to-hand action game" and is being developed by Blitz Arcade. You play as Han Tao, a mighty general who is pledged to protect precious artefact the Star of Destiny. Turns out the Evil Overlord has nicked it, which should teach the owners to keep precious artefacts away from people called Evil Overlord.
There's a healthy range of enemies to face and plenty of combos, counter-moves and weapons to try out. You can also perform Zen attacks by filling up a special meter via combos and dodges.
There are both online and offline modes, including Story Mode Co-op, where each stage is a bit harder and you get a shared Zen meter. Endurance Mode sees you battling an endless stream of enemies within a time limit. Plus you can of course post your high scores online.
Namco Bandai has yet to announce a price point or release date for Invincible Tiger
I wonder what this means for the future of the Timesplitters series?Look, it's great for the staff at Time Splitters developer Free Radical that the studio found a buyer. Nobody likes to be out of a job. But did they need a name change?
A condition of the purchase is that, as they are assimilated into Crytek's (the studio's buyers) European mainframe, Free Radical will no longer be known as Free Radical. They'll be known as Crytek UK.
Sure, it's naught but a name change. It'll still be made up of the same guys, and - provided they don't go and do something stupid like pitch Haze 2 - they'll probably come up with some excellent, excellent games.
But as has happened before with Westwood (EA), Psygnosis (SCE Liverpool) and Origin (EA, again), as soon as the developers are brought into a larger fold and lose that name, that identity, we lose a little something as well. A little of that recognition, a little of that intangible continuity that gives certain developers a certain pedigree.
Ah well! Now that's out of our system, it could be worse. We could have lost the whole damn studio, and that just wouldn't have been good for anyone.
Rumor: Battlefield 1943: Pacific Appearing At NY Comic Con
Survey suggests PSP2 may record PS3 gameplayLooks like EA may be bringing the Battlefield series back to World War II, as listings — and a supposed announcement — for Battlefield 1943: Pacific indicate a New York Comic Con showing.
Alongside that, French gaming site JeuxActu writes that the game has already officially been announced, listing the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 as release platforms. As far as we can tell, EA has yet to announce the game, though it did confirm the existence of Battlefield Bad Company 2 for a 2010 release and DICE was rumored to have one of its announcements spoiled this week.

Mhmm Most of Crytek staff don't like Consoles I think. They made 3 games for PC none for consoles If I remember.
Hope New Free radical's team will still make good games and maybe could they finish Battlefront III with an agreement with Lucasart ?

I dont know about the lucas arts deal being revived but we should at least get a timesplitters game and Crytek have been rumoured to be working on PS3 tech for ages now so hopefully those tools combined with Free Radicals know how of the PS3 architecture will lead to good thing further down the line.
I like this thread and I'm requesting it be moved to the general video game section...becuase it makes more sense to do so...
DICE Announces Battlefield: Bad Company 2
DICE, an Electronic Arts Inc. studio (NASDAQ:ERTS), today announced Battlefield: Bad Company 2(TM), the sequel to last year's blockbuster title. In this installment, the Bad Company crew again find themselves in the heart of the action, where they must use every weapon and vehicle at their disposal to survive. The action unfolds with unprecedented intensity, introducing a level of fervor to vehicular warfare never before experienced in a modern warfare action game. In Battlefield: Bad Company 2, the 'B' company fight their way through snowy mountaintops, dense jungles and dusty villages. With a heavy arsenal of deadly weapons and a slew of vehicles to aid them, the crew set off on their mission and they are ready to blow up, shoot down, blast through, wipe out and utterly destroy anything that gets in their way. Total destruction is the name of the game, delivered as only the DICE next generation Frostbite(TM) engine can. Either online or offline, enemies will soon learn there is nowhere to hide. Battlefield: Bad Company 2 will be available for the Xbox 360(R) videogame and entertainment system, the PLAYSTATION(R)3 computer entertainment system and the PC.

SEGA Serves Virtua Tennis 2009 Coming to Xbox 360, PS3 and PC this May.
A new Virtua Tennis game is tantalisingly imminent, with SEGA announcing that Virtua Tennis 2009 will be coming to Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC this May.
SEGA's being coy on who's developing the title, with an official spokesperson unwilling to disclose whether the game's being made in-house, being handled by Sumo Digital, the team responsible for the home ports of Virtua Tennis 3, or being developed elsewhere.
One of the early games of the current generation, Virtua Tennis 3 was served an 8.0 when reviewed in 2007.
Virtua Tennis 2009 will retain the mini-games that have helped define the series' arcade status, and will also include an improved World Tour mode. Contemporary stars of the game such as Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer and Maria Shaparova also feature, joined by new additions such as Andy Murray and Ana Ivanovic. Virtua Tennis 2009 will also have the official Davis Cup license.
"The return of Virtua Tennis promises to be a real treat for both fans of the series and sports game fans everywhere" said SEGA's European Marketing Director Gary Knight.
We'll have a full preview of Virtua Tennis 2009 for you within the next few weeks.
trouble is, there will be lots of repeated posts. for instance, if i hadn't just skipped in here for a quick poke about, i would have posted the KZ2 sales figures in the KZ2 thread... where they belong. it's a great idea for the occasional rumour, but other information should be used to keep more relevant threads alive
I'm not saying you can't have the thread, just keep it to very basic stuff and post anything moderately newsworthy and higher to their own threads for the sake of discussion.
