    PSN digital release this week

    I'm kind of tempted.
    PSN ID: VGAficionado

  3. It's a very relaxing game. You can open it and do flower collecting challenges to spend hours. Environments look absolutely lush, the art ad draw distance and lighting are one of the best you'll experience. Looks like a painting most of the time.

Or you can do challenges like hunting a wolf with dynamite or knifing a bear to death.

Or just do some outfit challenge like eliminating all players from the table on poker, arm wrestling or getting a perfect shot in horseshoe game.

Literally hundreds of things to do, and they all feel refined in the gameplay department.

One negative I will say though is mission structure us BORING. Doing errands for random people from mission one to end basically and they do get kind of repetitive but you don't realise while playing because the RAGE engine + Euphoria + Rockstar's bullet damage system makes them very satisfying.

I am so close to 100%ing this and will get around to it soon. I really hope GTAV has similar challenge system from this game, it's just so much fun and gives it substantial longevity long after the missions are over.

I've not even finished the main campaign yet, and I've had it for close to 2 months now. It's the tedious nature of the mission structure and my irritation at the fact it's so sparsely populated with settlements, something that would be fine were it not for the GTA3 style of NPC's going about their business within these settlements.

The main character's story is being revealed too slowly. So, either the attempt at a mysterious character has been poorly handled, or he's just a tedious character: he was involved with a gang and is now legit... *yawn*

It doesn't feel like a game that belongs in this generation. I played the shit out of - and thoroughly enjoyed - GTA4, but this game is just too lacking in the kind of dynamic gameplay that the absence of the trappings of a city should facilitate.

Flower picking? That would be absolutely fine if I could get my witchdoctor on and combine them into cures. Hunting animals would be more interesting if I could hang tokens of my spoils in my homes. There are RPG-esque roots here, roots that could have made this game blossom with a little more focus than "Western GTA". If they wanted an RPG, they should have put in the effort and made one. If they wanted an action/adventure game, they should have given us set-pieces and a character that can climb hills. What we got was something that blandly languished somewhere in the middle.

It pains my lobes to have to listen to a character that, when he talks on ideas of religion and philosophy, sounds agonizingly out of place. I don't believe for one second that a character like John Marsden, in the early 20th century, would have the religious ambivalence of a 21st century stoned sixth former.

It's a real pity because I really loved Red Dead Redemption and I entered into this game with a great deal of enthusiasm. That's now gone, and all I'm left with is a cautious sense of hope.

You don't eat pigs, we don't eat pigs,
It seems it's been that way forever.
So if you don't eat pigs and we don't eat pigs,
Why not not eat pigs together?

I think they did ok for a first time open world Red Dead game. Now they can expand next gen and give us those bigger settlements and hopefully more interesting missions. Overall i loved it but i dont think the Housers hould write the story for the next one.

As for Undead Nightmare now that i did not like. So repetitive and so boring. The missions were also so so bland. They did great in The Ballad of Gay Tony expansion but this was piss poor for me.

we could have had that this gen if all consoles had gone for blu-ray or an equivalent. DVD crippled this gen and i've always said that

Just so you know Red Dead is probably in the top ten best looking games this gen. Thats the 360 version. The PS3 version is very inferior. Blu Ray will help with content but the PS3 architecture has just been a mess to try and exploit the advantage of Blu Ray this gen. Thats why only PS3 games seem to do it. Also DVD doesnt matter anymore because multiple discs can be installed on 360. If GTA V comes out on one DVD you know you can only blame Rockstar this time around and not MS.

Im actually praying for PS4 to be announced soon so we can be done with these shitty PS3 ports.

just so you know, it's not that simple. devs are going to consider how many Arcades are out there first. that cuts their potential down quite a lot and regardless of the many posts on the fact you can buy a hard drive, that's not good enough. if MS had gone with HD-DVD this generation would be littered with Uncharted 2 quality games. as usual Sony handed this gen to devs and as usual MS fucked it up (deliberately, as Sony said)

anyway, i've had enough of this type of discussion. i simply can't believe people haven't worked it out yet. i'll leave the last word for Sony:

“I think what [Xbox Europe boss] Chris Lewis was referring to was something that we’ve known about for quite some time, that we’ve been dealing with, and trying to deal with – in the spirit of competition, more than anything, we look for ways to give our consumer reason to have the PS3. I think what Chris and the other representatives at Microsoft are doing is protecting an inferior technology. I think they want to dumb it down and keep it as pedestrian as possible so that if you want to do anything for Blu-ray or you have extra content above 9 gigs or you want to do anything of that nature, you’d better sure as heck remember that Microsoft can’t handle that,” Dyer began with his all-out attack.

“And that’s a huge problem with them. It first started on the smaller pubs, and we can talk about what’s happened on XBL and the policy they have there that requires publishers to have a whole litany of things in order to get onto their network or they have to go through and be published by Xbox, by Microsoft, which essentially lets them dictate how long they’ll be exclusive and whether or not they own the IP, etc, etc. They – for instance, if you want to be able to do something on XBL, you need to have an office, there’s all kinds of restrictions. We don’t do that. We don’t have any kind of policy like that.”

"Here’s the thing... It's now progressed to not just be these smaller indie pubs that are obviously very easy to kick around. It’s moved up the food chain. It’s gone to B and A level publishers to where Microsoft now demands - they sent out something, and I’m reading directly from this - and I’m sure you’ve seen this: 'Should content not be shipped simultaneously with competing platforms in all regions where the content is available, or should the content and features available on the Xbox 360 not be in parity with versions on competing platforms, then Microsoft reserves the right to not allow that content to be published for Xbox 360 or released on Xbox Live marketplace.' So potentially any time we’ve gone out and negotiated exclusive content of things that we’ve announced at things like DPS or E3, publishers are getting the living crap kicked out of them by Microsoft because they are doing something for the consumer that is better on our platform than it might be perceived on theirs."

"So from a creativity standpoint and what we are doing to try to make it better for the consumer, our view is Microsoft’s doing everything they can to eliminate that because they have an inferior technology."

Funnily enough, I agree....funnily because agreeing with this you might think I didn't enjoy the game but I did.....More the extra challenges than the missions though.

And yeah, first thing I tweeted after playing this game for a while to Rockstar was "you guys should make an RPG", this game really gave the sense that's kind of where the game design was headed but they didn't go full way but even half-designed RPG present in Red Dead is amazing so if Rockstar take the time to make a western RPG, it'll blow minds.

Anyway I guess my summary for this game would be, good with missions, great with the extra stuff.

And yes PS3 version isn't as good as 360 (my brother got it so I have personal comparison), but I wouldn't say "very inferior", 360 just looks a bit sharper and cleaner due to higher res. But PS3 version isn't going to make you puke or anything, it still looks fantastic and the 'soft rendering' of PS3 actually adds a nice touch in some areas.

  11. 100%'ed the SP Fantastic experience, hunting felt so awesome. And they really need these type of challenge system in GTAV, so damn addictive.

I can Platinum the game but there are some annoying MP trophies (as with all Rockstar game...). Might get around to them eventually, go to trophy site and get a boosting partner most likely.

Been trying to get to 100%, at 91.1% right now. Haven't had a whole lot of time in the past few months. The Social Club stuff helps greatly for this.

  13. Yeah that 100% page is fantastic. LA Noire one was awesome help as well. When I started my 100% quest I was thinking how crazy I was, but before you know it you get it done. The only tedious part is animals sometimes don't spawn for the hunter challenges but reading the Wikia page helped a lot for finding a few ke spawn locations.
The eco system in this game is so great and varied it's hard to have a set way of doing things (outside of a couple of animals who literally keep spawning in one spot).

Got the Three Consecutive FFA wins. SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO lucky though, got in a lobby with a guy who seemed AFK 90% of the time. I dunno what he was doing but I got it thanks to him. Maybe he is just a nice guy who idles in FFA lobbies to help people get trophies lol.

Only two left for Platinum now, 10 assists during a hideout raid (harder than it sounds) and the max rank one. Not a big fan of MP or doing hideouts over and over so levelling up has been a big pain. I played in most 2,3,4times XP events though so I am at 45.

Anyone up for helping me with the Assist one?

It's been a while since I played it so I might be rubbish, but I'll lend a hand helping you with the assist trophy.

  15. All you have to do is, watch who I am shooting in the arm/chest whatever, and as soon as I hit a guy, get a perfect headshot so he dies instantly, because if he doesn't die with your shot that comes after mine, it doesn't count as assist for me. We do that for 10 dudes and I got the trophy.

    Two things:
When is the soonest you can be on?
    &
Any trophies you want that I can help you get?

  16. Never mind got it. Ps3Trophies.org is a great community. With a BlackOps zombie trophy and now this, minutes after you post in a thread you get at least a couple of people helping you and in both cases they were very cool dudes.

Now just got to grind to MP Level50 and *bling*, Platinum....Not looking forward to that, as I don't like replaying hideouts over and over or playing competitive.
