Mario is a Pedophile (And other awesome lies).
And if you missed the first column, here it is.
What games from the past would you resurrect for HD upgrades on PSN?
PSN (US): CreativeWriter
You forgot that capcom is also remaking Super Turbo with HD sprites and online play, so I guess that counts as well (although the games developement has taken well over a year because of the artwork taking forever to be done).
Why is is that HD sprites take so long to create/implement compared to their SD brothers?

Ooh yeah, Sonic HD and Flashback (I LOVED FLASHBACK... I had it for the Amiga... the FRENCH version, albeit I didn't speak a single word french at the time^^)
There are some other games I'd love to see as a HD remake (and DON'T make them 3D). Metal Slug (It's being done, I've read), Mortal Kombat 2 (YES, with recorded fighter sprites!!!), Double Dragon etc...
Great Stuff!
Kept you waiting
The Metal Slug remake is gonna be in 3D and online![]()
More detail in the spritework. So each individual sprite takes longer.
That, and the fact that traditionally, you have to draw 1000+ frames for each character (in a 2D fighter), so drawing each by hand, and making them consistant over the whole characters is harder to do in HD because imperfections will be easier to spot out.
That was quite an excellent read. Especially the first one. Very interesting. Although it seems like its made out that a hardcore gamer and the Wii cannot co-exist. I understand it though :\
Lol! This is pretty ridiculous, but it's awesome. PSINext has the best writer in videogames. Awesome. I'm also impressed, probably like everyone else, that you were able to write up 2 articles so quickly.
*vomits*And just where did those poor, wanton, waifish kooplings come from, anyway? Did they spring from Bowser’s hermaphroditic loins, or should we assume Modern Mario has abducted Mrs. Bowser (turnabout is fair play), using her spiky shell in his sick Buffalo (a.k.a. Bullet) Bill fetish.
Represent!Warcraft 3: an RTS to end all RTSes that sucked up most of the Post-Grad Gamer’s pre-grad free time.
Lol man, lots of nice bits in there. I'm not sure I got the whole jist of the article, I took up reading this in spare library time. I couldn't access any of the links to get all the references (even wiki wouldn't load hahaha) because my net is so damn slow in the libs lol.
From what I think was going on (correct me if I'm wrong plz so I end up on the right track later at least, again I had to skim, sorry) is that a lot of people might be confused as to how a game moves into HD from SD or 2D sprites. The young boy and his nightmares was a good to illustrate who didn't know what was going to happen lol. And I guess the second major point was we need more HD remakes for PSN games, true to the roots, true to the art, better than sequels is... nostalgia... the "!" Lol. :P
Technology is a glittering lure. But there is the rare occasion where the public can be engaged on a level beyond flash. They have a sentimental bond with the product.
...a deeper bond with the [game]. Nostalgia. It's delicate... but potent.
...in Greek, nostalgia literally means 'the pain from an old wound.' A twinge in your heart far more powerful than memory alone. This [HD remake] isn't [a sequel], it is a time machine. It goes backwards, forwards, takes us to a place where we ache to go again... to a place we know we are loved.
To me, actually, Warcraft 3 was NOT an RTS... it was more of a top down RTS RPG... and I didn't like it somehow. I still prefer TotalA, SupComm and my alltime love CnC (Westwood era).

I wanted to play all those RTSes, but I left PC gaming before they came out. I wonder when Sony is going to follow MS and put a real RTS on the system?
Can they? Recent reports of the PS4 and X720 going casual make me wonder...Originally Posted by SuperLuigiBros

MR Do! and Amidar! loved those games
They can but the question is do the hardcore want to? Overwhelmingly the answer is no. They feel the Wii, and casual gaming, as having tainted "their" industry.
Ironically, they didn't seem to mind it so much when it was on their console (Singstar, Buzz, etc...).
Very well written editorial, by the way. I enjoyed reading it.
Well Im a hardcore gamer and I mostly play Super Smash Bros and Mario Galaxy an Mario Kart. The Wii certainly has more casual games, but like Viper said, PS3 and 360 arent without their own. At E3 if I remember correctly Microsoft presented a more casual friendly 360. And since your wife wasnt a gamer, the PS3 must have some casual appeal.
For me, as a hardcore gamer, the Wii provides me with my main gaming needs. I grew up with all the Nintendo 1st party games and nothing will stop me from playing them. The 360 an PS3 (of which i have both) both provide me with the in between gaming sessions when the Wii is a little boring. Thats not to say they dont have anything to compare to the Wii. Obviously. After Mario Galaxy, Uncharted was my favorite game of last year.
I just think the thing that bugs me is when people refer to Wii or Nintendo as 'kiddy' when its simply for 'everyone', and I feel I fit into that demographic.
The problem I have with the Wii is that it feels like they aren't doing enough to appeal to the gamers that have kept them in this business for 25 years. We've got the big five (Mario, Zelda, Metroid, Kart, Smash) and then the occasional gem like an excellent remake of RE4. When I see games like Wii Cheer, I feel really cheated. 2009 looks a bit dim (granted, its a bit early to be making such grandiose statements, but right now for the sake of argument it does) and so I sympathize with the gamers who feel like they're getting the shaft from Nintendo.
Are Microsoft and Sony perfect? No. Microsoft has managed to get by for years without really catering to the RPG genre--which is becoming more and more fringe, or is it just me? Sony could get some momentum if it didn't keep shooting itself in the foot every five minutes with their remarkably dismal business acumen--a trait Nintendo displayed like none other for over a decade. But, at least they're trying to appeal to the hardcore gamer and they're trying to give us the games we want because we spend the most money and we help drive a majority of the sales. If Nintendo wants to keep this up with these remarkably bad games, they can go right ahead. Say, isn't this dilution the very thing that helped crash the industry in 1983?
I dunno. Just a hunch.
"A-I-D-A. Attention, Interest, Decision, Action. Attention - Do I have your attention? Interest - Are you interested? I know you are, because it's fuck or walk. You close or you hit the bricks. Decision - Have you made your decision for Christ? And Action." (Alec Baldwin in Glengarry Glen Ross)
My stories, Coercion, and Avarice, and Conduit available for the Kindle.
I can definitely understand how people feel cheated that there are only lame games (for the most part) coming out. But theyre released Zelda, Mario, Metroid, Smash an Mario Kart - 3 of those fairly recently - so they can't excatly bring out a new one any time soon. I think that because Twilight Princess was essentially a Gamecube game, they should show off a new Zelda very soon, with another year or two of waiting, but we cant except another Mario or Smash or Kart for quite some time.
That being said, they need to be showing the likes of Star Fox, F-Zero, Pikmin, Donkey Kong... The things Nintendo is known for. Nice big adventures. If they a few of them in the near future we'd have something to look forward to, and by the time they come out, they might be ready to show off the next Mario or something and let the cycle begin all over again.
I would never complain if they showed off a new Wind Waker style Zelda for the Wii.
Why? Just because a title from a 3rd party is designed without you in mind makes you feel cheated? Should your favorite record label and movie studio makes produce only the movies and records that sit squarely in your interests?
That was hardware and software dilution. The hardware far more so because there were a dozen different platforms all competing. The software side had issues because it was all first party back then so it a maker had problems, so did the software and the volume, dilution, back then was far, far worse than anything we see today. You also have to consider that those games didn't sell, on Wii many of them do and sell damn good at that. Don't forget that those casual offering are actually the funding for your big, grand HD outings as admitted by several large publishers already.Originally Posted by Pro A.

Well yes and no...
See, the MI nowadays is a bunch of casual cocks. There isn't nearly any "hardrock" or "metal" band contracted to them. Now, if Nuclear Blast (German Metal Label) started signing todays Backstree Boys etc. I'd be sad.
See, what I am trying to say is, every genre has its place and time. Right now, it is "casual", and I hope not every second major publisher (i.e. label) will jump ship, because it's more profitable in the short run (it isn't in the long run, because casuals usually are NOT fans of something, they just like this or that game... hardcore ARE fans, and rightly so).
I am not saying there isn't a place for both, but I sincerely hope that the hardcore market won't budge. I WANT to see games like Metal Gear and GTA, and those games are MORE than profitable, they are hugely profitable, albeit they have risks.
Kept you waiting
So then you agree they can essentially co-exist without problems.
As for core content producers going casual, name me one major publisher that has gone all casual this generation. You won't find one nor will you.
This casual "takeover" of the core market is just a bunch of ignorant fanboys who know little to nothing of the market and the industry and simply fear their masculine ego is in danger simply because it must exist on the same shelf as a product their parents might enjoy.
If these morons, yes...they are most certainly morons, would walk through a video or CD store, they might clue themselves in on how an expanded market is not only acceptable but enhances the overall acceptance of the medium and the volume of content generated.
