It's not getting very good reviews. Both IGN and Joystiq are knocking it pretty hard.

    Don't believe everything you read.

  4. I really don't want to shit on a parade, but everything I've seen form this game screams "good" at best. Sorry. I will rent it though, but those are my impressions from watching quite a few previews and footages and stuff.

  5. Forget what I said, only 2 hours in but the world gripped me a lot and the gameplay is just damn fun and satisfying.

I recommend playing on Nightmare difficulty, it really isn't too bad so far and it makes gunfights much more intense.

I could write pages for the first two hours of this game, but just wanted to quickly drop by and say I was wrong to be sceptical.

Games feel...wrong now without trophies (i know!!! i know!!!), so I might pick it up for PS3. But I'm wondering if worse graphics on PS3 will take away from the immersion the PC version has. Will probably rent first on PS3, if not good, carry on with PC.

Yeah I was finally able to get it to run after tweaking some things, getting rid of the intro videos, using a custom config file.

    Did you pirate it?

Yeah, for now, just to test it.
If PS3 rent proves good, will buy on PS3, if PS3 version shit, will buy on Steam. Won't play the pirate version past these 2 hours.

Developers should thank torrent uploaders in this case as I had very little interest in the game before trying it.

And luckily for me, the auto-detect worked wonders and now I want it in every PC game. I hate fiddling with settings and as long as automation is as good as it is in RAGE, auto-detect is awesome.

Got it from my friends Steam account, again^^ (gotta love how easy it is to share games on Steam). Runs SWELL on my PC, using the Rage Performance Drivers (the correct ones). 60fps all around, but in some cases, I sadly get a lot of screen tearing. Funny enough, this game uses 50-70% of my GPU but maxes out my CPU! Not a lot of games these days do that. Especially since it's a quad core.

Also, I can't, at all, confirm the texture problems. I do see streaming, if I turn around quickly, but the high res textures appear less than a quarter of a second after the model appears on screen. I can't get a full on "low res textures everywhere" like they show in the screenshots. It must be the broken drivers and whatnot (or they all use very low end CPUs and max them out even more than I do already).

Didn't pay a whole lot yesterday (had a long day of learning for my final university exam in Multimedia Database Systems), but one thing becomes clear... the weapons are VERY rewarding. Not like most games today, the pistol actually DOES damage!!

Do you guys have Nvidia or Ati cards?

Segitz sounds like you have ATI saying you have the rage performance drivers. If you want to fix the screen tearing, since there is no option in game. You have to go to the catalyst control center and under gaming, scroll down to vsync and slide the slider all the way to always on.

  10. Nvidia- 525M to be exact. I'm running on a laptop as you may have guessed b the card name and play it plugged into a 32" TV via HDMI. It looks and runs much better than I anticipated on the lappy.

As I've got no problem what so ever with the performance so far. Now and then I get crappy textures when looking around fast, but even than you really have to be looking for it. Screen tearing I get now and then but nothing too major.
So overall, technical side of things doesn't distract the flow or immersion in any way for me.

Not on PC anyway, PS3 to be seen.

Yeah, I am on ATI (6870 to be exact).

From what I read, the AA solution used in RAGE is actually quite blurry and shouldn't be used... I'm gonna try MLAA later since my GPU isn't maxed anyhow.

Its too late now! You already shat on my parade

So how good is the AI? As good as those vids made them look?

  13. You know, when you step away from the immersion of the world, there really isn't much to look back onto. Go to guy, get mission, go to place, kill mission, go back to guy to get reward.
So it was the immersion of the world giving the repetitiveness a sense of grandness.

Gunfights are fun though, and maybe more varied missions are on the way. £30 on Steam, not a big loss, might go for that version. Although many are saying PS3 version looks amazing, I don't want to spend rent money on it just to see.

@AC!D AI is...pretty good I guess. Two things stood out to me during my 2 hours:

Bad: They take cover behind something and unless you throw grenade or something, they never move. So you can aim at them, go behind cover, and come out of cover aiming at the last spot they were at, and they will still be there. Even if you fire shots at that location a lot, they don't seem to go "shit better get the fuck out the way". And I'm playing on Nightmare so...This problem is more of a problem when sniping. They are basically just standing targets, a better AI would move positions between your shots.

Good: Driving AI amazed me. I was bumping an opponent as we were coming up to a pillar and just as I was about to bump him to the left into the pillar, he hit the brakes (seeing the pillar incoming), and overtook me from the other side while I was recovering from my missed bump attack.

Actually another Good: They don't automatically know where you are! YAY! So you can bust into a room with a shotgun, take out two guys near the entrance and run back out, and the other people in there will go "what the fuck was that?!" and come looking for you and say things like "shit, he is gone!" "who did this?!". Really adds to the atmosphere.

My favourite bit was there were four guys in a room, I busted in with a shotgun, ran up to 3 of them super fast and one shotted them perfectly on point, then the fourth guy, just as he turned around saying "what the f-", BAM!, shot in the face! Room cleared in a matter of seconds, do dramatic slow-mo walk away

I like the AI too. Played around with some console settings, including bumping up the minimal texture size, which makes the game look a lot better up close, though the textures still are VERY muddy in parts... and when I say muddy I mean... WOW. That's Quake 1 quality, sometimes. EXTREMELY low resolution. And I am NOT having streaming problems at all. The rest of the game looks good... for example, go to Dan Haggar in the first down, behind the counter, look at the stuff besides the rifle... or the window frame to your left in that situation... these textures are a disgrace!

Still, the game runs at 1080P with 8xAA at mostly 60Hz, which is awesome. Even with VSync, it works perfectly. Only some minor framedrops. Imagine if there were no consoles and PCs would have BluRay discs all around. This game would look INSANELY good. Tech wise, it's a pure masterpiece. Goes to show that JD Carmack still has it in him!

Well that sucks. You make it sound like there was room for a little RPG like exploration and yet they built this massive world only to keep it linear in structure if im understanding right? I really hated that talk to guy and fetch/kill repetition in Borderlands because the story and characters were so crap. Is the story at least good in Rage?

You are probably playing it yourself now, but just to let you know, structure opened up now, with plenty of side quests.

And story? 4 hours in and it's...um, yeh...Probably the weakest part of the game. But this game seems to prove me wrong on everything the longer I play so that might turn into something great as well later on.

New driver for AMD cards (10/7/2011): http://support.amd.com/us/kbarticles...eDriverV2.aspx

Seemed to fix any crashing I had when entering new areas.

Ive set up all the patches and installs for Dark Souls and Rage but i havent started. I stupidly decided to pick up all four New Vegas DLC packs two days before this released and they are quite long. At least New Vegas runs a little ( Still has problems the bigger and bigger that save file gets past 50+ hours into the game ) better now with 300MB+ patches released since last year. Im still questioning whether to pick up Skyrim

I don't know if anyone still cares about this game but the Scorchers single player DLC out next week....http://www.bethblog.com/2012/12/14/r...s3-360-and-pc/

Return to the Wasteland in The Scorchers, an all-new RAGE add-on from id Software – arriving on 360, PC, and PS3 next week for $4.99 (or 400 Microsoft Points).

In this brand-new adventure spanning six all-new areas, you will fight alongside new allies to defend the Hager Settlment from a maniacal bandit clan known as The Scorchers. Along the way, you’ll participate in a new season of Mutant Bash TV, encounter new mini-games, and wield the overpowering and brutal Nailgun.

In addition to the new content, this DLC includes ‘Ultra-Nightmare’, a new high difficulty mode, as well as an ‘Extended Play’ option that allows you to play past the original ending of the game – giving you the opportunity to finish collecting items and achievements.
