I recently got home from San Antonio and today I hooked my 360 back up. For some reason when I try to bring up the signal on the TV, I get a message on the TV saying "unsupported format." I have tried putting the component cables in both component inputs. I have also tried using the VGA input. I have my Wii hooked up with component cables, and it works just fine.
Before moving back home, I did have it hooked up to my monitor via VGA.
I am thinking that it may be a 360 setting or problem. I don't get any red lights. Has anyone heard of this or have any idea of what could be wrong?
I was brilliant, and didn't do a google search before posting. I found out I had it set to 1080p (my HDTV only goes to 720p). When I was hooking it up to my monitor (which is 1080p compatible), I switched it to that setting and never changed it back. I am guessing with the VGA, it was still relying on the same resolution.
Just FYI, you are able to reset the 360's default viewing settings by doing the following:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/911059To reset the display settings of the Xbox 360 console to the default settings, follow these steps:
1. Remove any discs from the disc tray.
2. Turn the console off.
3. Turn the console on.
Note If you are using an Xbox 360 Wireless Controller, turn the console on by using the Xbox Guide button on the controller.
Note Make sure that you use the player 1 controller when you do this. The player 1 controller is the controller where the upper-left quadrant light is on.
4. As the console starts, press and hold the Y button, and then pull the right trigger at the same time. This causes the Xbox Dashboard to reset the display settings to the default settings and then automatically restarts the console. So it's OK when the Xbox 360 console restarts.
