lol. but I think it depends on the game style more than tech limit. R2 also has an amasing 8 single-player co-op that I don't think even PC did before.

I have a question...so how will this game play before it ramps up?

I mean, full scales assaults don't really sound all that great when there are only 20 people online at first .

Waiting for players to join.. (15/256)..

    2 hours later:

Waiting for players to join... (45/256)
    lulz...

I'm sure the game is broken up into 4ths and 8ths, so it will still be playable on a smaller scale.

If it becomes a system seller, I am pretty sure there won't be only 45 peoples playing it.

This game actually just reminded me of Huxley. A mmo fps always seemed like a great idea. Planetside was bad, but at least it got the idea out there.

seeing how this game will likely be multiplayer-only and a big first party project, you can bet thousands will be online day one.

and again, 256 is not the only player count allowed. you can play smaller teams. that is ony the maximum not the minimum.

Ambitious. Props to them for taking it to the next level. Hopefully a good execution will follow.

I know that, but I'm just saying that the game might be geared towards large scale conflicts.

You can play battlefield or Quake Wars with small numbers of people, but they definitely aren't living up to their potential like that.

  11. I can imagine the game being basically the graphics of SOCOM Confrontation. I wouldn't expect Killzone-esque quality lol.

That being said I'm sure it will still look great. When you're in a warzone with 200+ players looking like Killzone is probably the last thing on someone's mind.

Hisham - Lag? SOE did Planetside fairly nicely to be honest. That was years ago.

And also, remember that many players won't be in the same location. Maps will probably be huge. If a game is using dropships and needs dropships to accomodate the gameplay, that's probably to accomodate huge map size as well.

Viper - Filling up servers? Players will go somewhere and servers get full. Anytime, you bet it. 64 players for BF1942 is pretty large, that was huge for back then. Wherever a few go more will enter and the players just keep dropping in.

Anyway, this is what the Planetside fan in me has been waiting for - Planetside's PS3 reincarnate.

You used to play PlanetSide back in the day Curry?

  13. I played the 7-day trial only.

I played it pretty often though when I did have it. I wish I was able to play it more, but I'm not one of the subscription kind of people nor the long lasting MMO type. :P

Had some great experiences with those 7 days though. It was a pretty fine game even without considering how the scale was totally beyond anything else.

I only played the trial too. The interface was too confusing for me at the time.

    .
Yup, if you're going to spend your polygons on having characters onscreen you don't have much left over for the scenery. I can see this getting torn to shreds on troll boards, but **** em.

Currently playing: Everything God of War

  20. Jack made a point of saying it's only possible on the PS3, and is in NO WAY FEASIBLE on any other platform, so it's gonna put PS3 through its paces. Visuals in the realm of Socom:Confrontation at best.
