I'm alot more cautious of the idea of modding my PS3 than my PSP for some reason.

Because it's more expensive, and you won't be able to take it online?

I may buy a second(used) PS3 to play around with CFW and other "mods."

no good will come of this.

    edit:I love homebrew too.

  7. Yeah, I wish they'd leave this alone. The cons outweigh the pros in this situation.

    No they don't.

If you are familiar with XMBC on the original Xbox, then you are probably dripping wet with the idea of a PS3 becoming that. Entirely open-sourced. Wifi built in? The possibilities are practically endless once this baby gets opened up.

    A completely free system^^

Yes, I know, piracy etc... which already runs rampant on PSP etc...

But I doubt it, that Piracy on PS3 will be that huge of a problem, because the games can be sooo huge. I mean, who wants to download 50GB a pop? Or even copy that stuff...

I'd rather see a free RSX in Linux than copying games^^ That would really rock!

Probably the same people that d/l'ed 19 gigs of blue dragon and most recently 25 gigs of lost odyssey. Sony's in a bad position with multi platform games, they all sell better on 360 and would probably sell more if so many people didn't mod their 360's. Imagine what will happen once the ps3 is moded, 3rd parties will have little incentive to prioritize a game on ps3.

I'm sure it wont be as big a problem as it is on psp or even the 360 but i don't think we should contribute to it on the forums.

    Shame on you Coded-Dude

I just want it to be the multimedia powerhouse it can be. I never have and never will pirate games. I do admittedly download the occasional movie, but I buy most of them. I usually download it to preview it, then go buy it on blu-ray(for which I have over 30 movies). It would be nice though if the PS3 supported more media types, and I think the only way to truly achieve that is to embrace custom firmware.

Thats exactly what i been saying all along. Like MGS4 for instance, i sure as hell would download that much data not try to wait for it. I cant rent either so my only option is to buy or borrow then rip to HDD but still, i wouldnt feel likt buying a 1TB HDD or nothing.

The most id do is PS2 games and PS1

  15. Why the fuck would I take my PS3 back to older firmwares? I mean, really, sell this idea to me. I triple dog dare you.

There's a special kind of nerd though, who thinks computers will overtake mankind in thirty years, changing humanity in ways incomprehensible to us now, ignoring the third of the world without electricity. It gives spiritual significance to technology developed primarily for entertainment and warfare and gives nerds something to obsess over that isn't the crushing vacuousness of their lives.

From what i understood of a previous announcement. It's just to make it think you have a lower firmware. That way they can build their own firmware and update it from there.

Well, to install CFW on PSP, you need FW 1.50 beforehand, because only 1.00 and 1.50 can run code in kernel mode (the newer ones now can too, afaik, but I dunno the specifics)

  18. Sounds like I have to do a lot of retrofitting for things I, personally mind you, wouldn't give a crap about. I like my psp doing what it does as it is!

    Word.

  20. Agreed. I'm not risking my PSP, nor my PS3 for this tomfoolery. You guys wanna risk it all, go right ahead. I'm staying in the comfort zone.
