^^That doesn't sound like a terrible theory. It's reasonable for how much research we would do anyway lol. I approve! XD
Not like I care who sells more since I already have the system but the internet will be fun either way.
it all depends on whether the momentum of GT can be sustained until the release of GTA... and whether those that bought (or are thinking of buying) GT will consider buying a PS3 for both titles. if they sit in the same camp then, yes, your theory could hold true, but if those that buy racing games are a different customer altogether from those that would buy a sandbox title, then it's going to be tight
^That theory is a lot weaker, mainly the part about buying for both titles.
That has to assume a lot of overlap between people who buy GTA and buy GT.
And honestly that's probably not remotely the case.
It would almost be better to have two different camps of shoppers IMO. Two different groups makes me think more hardware and software but if it's only one group than hardware won't push as much. Not like I know anything lol
mmmmmmmmmmmmm... i can see what your saying, but that's to believe that GTA will sell better on the 360 without any other influence and actually moves away slightly from the theory that GT coupled with GTA could help sales... like i said though, we'll have to wait and see on that one. it's basically the installed base of the 360 (and maybe the extra content) V the loyalty of PS2 fans to the franchise minus those that feel R* sold out =![]()
lol ok I thought you meant something else. Yea in that case it would be better for Sony if gamers wanted GT5P and GTA instead of just one.
I keep hearing about the DLC which is a plus but I'd think having a GTA Home space is also a plus that not many people are talking about. Good point.
how many people will have bought it for the 360 knowing it is better but not why? that is the question. disappointed Arcade owners may be a fact, but they will have already bought the Arcade, so we can't figure that into the theory. on the other hand, Sony can happily promote the HOME integration because every PS3 owner has a hard drive. this could lead to a steady sell through of PS3s but a slowing down of 360s because of word spreading that you can only get the full experience with a HDD
People like us who tend to following gaming might take into account which version is better, which one has DLC, which one has a Home space etc...but I think the casual everyday schmuck will buy it on the system that is significantly cheaper and if both are relatively the same price then they will buy it on the system they are familiar with. That is what Sony is banking on and I believe Patcher was hinting at also.
I think the DLC is a great addition for 360's but brand linking or whatever you want to call it will come into play even if its in a small dose. It's the same reason why DMC4 sold more software on the PS3 and also helped push more hardware. GTA could do that but on a greater scale.
If they are really not into the gaming scene or tech savy then they probably won't put 2 and 2 together and realize an HDD is needed for the DLC. They will either buy a 360 that has an HDD by default or buy the Arcade and be pissed about it afterwards. Not many people follow all these SKU stuff. People still buy the 40GB PS3 wouldn't knowing it's not BC.
i still think that the PS3 will have caught the 360 or even overtaken it by 2009 in Europe... it'll put a huge dent in the American market too:
The Games
Xbox 360:
1. Ninja Gaiden 2
2. Left 4 Dead
3. Too Human
4. Gears of War 2 (SYSTEM SELLER)
5. Fable 2 (SYSTEM SELLER)
6. Halo Wars
7. Splinter Cell Conviction
8. Alan Wake
9. Banjo Kazooie
10. Halo Chronicles
PS3:
1. Gran Turismo 5 (SYSTEM SELLER)
2. Haze
3. Metal Gear Solid 4 (SYSTEM SELLER)
4. Metal Gear Online
5. Singstar
6. LittleBigPlanet
7. Resistance 2
8. Killzone 2
9. Motorstorm 2
10. SOCOM Confrontation
11. InFamous
12. The Agency
13. Final Fantasy XIII (SYSTEM SELLER)
14. God of War III (SYSTEM SELLER)
15. Tekken 6
16. Twisted Metal
VGC's numbers are not an April Fools joke and the X360 price cut numbers were last weeks figures, not this week.
X360 hasn't led the PS3 weekly in Europe since last October.
Is Fable really a system seller?
singstar is gonna kill in eu/uk, and I have high hopes for Buzz as well(since you can submit your own questions/etc.)
Adding to what dnpmakkah said, I about many casuals even know about the 360 version being superior(DLC) or even coming out on the same day.
I think most will presume the Playstation version will be released earlier, and maybe even be superior.
