Warhawk goes Gold! 100 best BETA players awarded.

Hi Everyone – It’s been a while since I’ve made a post, but since some of you guys posted comments wanting me to jump back on, *and* the very interesting pricing debate/discussion that has been going on recently, well … here I am with a couple of important updates!?

First off, has Warhawk gone “gold”??

Hells Ya! The PSN and Blu-ray versions have gone “GOLD,” completely finished and will go on sale August 28th … just a few weeks away! We’re all really proud of the game, and those of you who got a chance to participate in the BETA know why. We can’t wait to get online with all of you so we can beat the hell out of each other!

    Next, what does Warhawk cost?

Ready for this? One Million dollars!

Ok, now for reals … If you didn’t already know, SCEA is taking an exciting new approach with Warhawk – making it available for download directly from the PlayStation Store *and* releasing it at retail simultaneously. Each one has a different price. Why different pricing? A couple of reasons: first off, we wanted to give all of you the option, the retail game is more of a premium version with some expanded video content, traditional package and manual (this seems to mean a lot with some of the gamers I have spoken to), and a Jabra Bluetooth headset bundled with the game – all for $59.99!

We’re also looking at including a set of Ginsu knives, and an extra-jumbo tub of Oxy-Clean!

Alright … I’m lying about the knives and the Oxy-Clean … Oxy-Clean does work really well though and I highly recommend it.

    Anyhoo, back on track ….

The PlayStation Store version will be $39.99 and I’m really glad that SCEA came through with a “good value” price for this – it’s the right thing to do.

I’m a firm believer in the Google founders’ moto “Don’t be Evil” and the $39.99 PlayStation Store price is a good example of that.

Warhawk is a great looking, great playing multiplayer game but at the end of the day, it’s a multiplayer-only game and if you decide not to get the premium version at retail with the headset, this is a great option for you – at a great price.

Like I said previously, those of you who’ve had a chance to play Warhawk, know how good it is, and why a game that is fun to play for 70+ hours offers more gameplay than a lot of single player games that cost a great deal more.

…and yes, that’s just one of the statistics that is tracked by Warhawk’s Stat system. During the BETA we saw users log crazy high numbers – 70 was by far *not* the largest … most users had over 30 and we had to ultimately turn the servers off!. Who knows how high those numbers would be if we were to keep the BETA open?

Speaking of the BETA, I’d like to let you guys know that we were watching the Warhawk Statistics database during the BETA, looking for the top players. We ultimately used the Bonus Points category since it covers all play modes, levels, vehicles, troops, weapons, kill types, etc.

So…for the top 100 players, we have prepared a “Top-BETA-Players” award that you will be receiving in the mail soon. It includes a really nice print of the box-art, signed by the team *and* a very, very limited edition metal Warhawk Wings pin! So guys and gals, please keep your eyes out for this in the coming weeks!

Well that’s all for now. Hopefully that was informative.

I think for my next post, I’d like to show all you guys some of the great work that our IT-Team has been doing “behind-the-curtain”. Since Warhawk is a multiplayer-only game, for those of you who choose to play online, I think it would be good for you to see some of the server work that we have done since the BETA closed.

    As always – Rock on!

    I want one of those!!!

It did, and I'm glad I read that little tidbit. Finally something to play in the Summer!!!

Would've been nice if it was mid-August tho, but hell at least it'll replace my Lair purchase.

    Good stuff...

I sure would love to get this game but not if it runs at only 720p. When I heard about the PS3 I bought into the hype and bought a $2800 SXRD 60" tv and a 7.1 home theater system (HTIB because I'm lazy) and I sure am sick of Sony not living up to their promises.

And to think I used to be the biggest Sony fanboy there was. No defending this, though.

Most fun I've had with the PS3 so far. It's a pick up and play type of game and it will consume you.

  9. What about the 100 worst? *raises hand* WE should get some kind of consolation price, like.. a hanky.

There's a special kind of nerd though, who thinks computers will overtake mankind in thirty years, changing humanity in ways incomprehensible to us now, ignoring the third of the world without electricity. It gives spiritual significance to technology developed primarily for entertainment and warfare and gives nerds something to obsess over that isn't the crushing vacuousness of their lives.

You've got TEN YEARS of Sony coming out with 1080p titles. Stop crying already. Nobody TOLD you to buy all that nonsense to play these games. You could've easily waited for LCD TVs to get cheaper in price before you made a purchase, with your surround sound system as well. I'm gonna be playing it on a
$300 480i set with two 6w speakers. Do you see my bawling like an infant?

  12. Damn Sony promised PS3 would be 4D!

    What a fucking rip-off!!!

  13. BAWLIIINNNN!!

Not the point. Sony told us how great the PS3 would be. Remember all the 120 fps nonsense? While I like the system and feel it has the best future of the current 3 they still can't put out what they promised. Why should I reward them with mediocrity?

If the PS3 is as good as they say, we should see all games in 1080p@60 instead of a bunch of excuses.

I still have my hope, though. I look at the 10 fps full auto 2 and compare that with how fluid Virtua Tennis 3 is. I know VT isn't as visually complex, but it's a huge step up in quality for a Sega game. Here's hoping.

And LCD tvs? Bleh. I am a huge LCOS fan. I love my tv to death, but the PS3 is what clinched the sale. I bought it in Oct and got my PS3 in Dec. I was planning to wait until Sept or Oct of this year to buy a tv but decided to take the plunge. Now I bought my first house so no new TVs for a while.

Those claims you made are preposterous. You seem to have not done your homework or something, no offense.

I wouldn't dare plunk down that amount of dough just on a whim because I thought, "OMG! PS3 is teh always 1080p. Lemme empty my pockets right now."

Jeez louise. Sony did say PS3 is 1080p and it IS 100% 1080p compliant last time I checked.

But I know where you stand with this BS of I spent for 1080p. Tell me Champ. Where did they ever say it is ALWAYS ON 1080p with every single thing? Bring me that quote and I'll take your post seriously. Right now its just screaming unreasonable and FUD.

DEVELOPERS are the ones who decide what resolution a game is going to run at. If a dev wants to make their game very detailed, use advanced AI, physics, HD-textures and release it before Duke Nukem Forever comes out, they'll have to choose.

Even if PS3 was 10.000 times more powerful, there might be some games running at 720p because the developers would rather use the available horsepower for something else.

Also, the same can be said about 120 fps. The developers fell (and I agree) that there are better things to use the processing power for than running at such a ridiculously high framerate. It's hard to see the difference anyway.

Well, remember when Sony said that the HD era starts with them? Only they can bring us 1080p? They defined HD as 1080p and aren't delivering, so I guess next gen starts with PS4.

The PS3 wasn't the only reason I bought this set, but it was the last thing on a list that made me decide to get it when I did. I've always vehemently defended the things I buy and love, which are mainly Sony, Apple, and General Motors. However, there's no excuse for the kind of hype Sony put on this and then failed to deliver on.

I think Kutargi's Reality Distortion Field™ is even more powerful than Steve Jobs's!

There's no point in continuing the conversation further. You and I won't change each other's minds. I believe in the free market and until Sony gives me what I really care about (games without lots of jagged lines) then I won't bother giving them my money. I guess it's my loss.

I agree, and of course it's up to the developers. I guess my point is that I see more visual flare in Super Stardust HD than I do in Resistance. At least Resistance runs at 60 Hz, but they weren't able (with their current programming ability) to up the resolution. I believe the PS3 will achieve 1080p on all games within a couple years, so I guess I'll be happy then.

After all... if we don't care about graphics or resolution why don't we all just save money and buy a Wii?
