I just realised I probably don't care enough about videogames as I used to. I've got a few free days off work, so I see me doing this, but I'll probably have to catch up on, oh, the last few months of videogaming news so I can write about the state of the media today rather than, say, the media in January

I didnt even see Viper's thread until you mentioned it in this thread.
I have a slightly different take from him though. I think that the media truly was vicious to Nintendo for almost a decade, especially during GCN. And I think they helped cement PS2's total dominance in the last gen. However, I dont use that as complete justification for their improper slant and templating that they're doing to Sony now.
Sony has made several big gaffes with the PS3, mostly due to an arrogance problem. But the press truly has placed them in a template of doom and gloom at every article they report on them. And that's simply bad journalism. You don't slip opinion into news reporting and thats what they're doing.

Here is my view on the cost of PS3, and why it represents the best value. I've taken the prices of the items from www.amazon.com today, (with the exception of the XBLive yr subscription, which I googled for).
I've not included the cost of games for a typical year, but instead just the hardware costs for a typical user.
I've tried to make an equivalent system, but could not find a 120gb sata drive on amazon, so it's a 250gb.

The bottomline is this. All the people that complain about PS3's treatment in the game media need to simply stay silent on the issue if they fail to take up the opportunity to respond on a media platform like PSInsider.

He means...Don't just talk. Point out the facts behind PS3's success, and "combat" the media bias, instead of "attacking" the media directly.
There's a fine line here.
What you did, didn't do that. It just talks about the price tag, and deals online, etc. He wants a controversial article that garners attention from the media about their bias towards PS3. Its kinda like what EGM did to Peter Moore a year ago.

Thanks for explaining it. I am sorry to report that I don't have the literary skills to write such an article - even if I could fathom why the media does have such a downer on the PS3. Could be nothing more than wanting to knock the leader, but I don't understand that motive.

That's true.
But the problem is not just that they express their opinions when giving news. The main problem is that they let their bias dictate those opinions on the PS3 and its games.
That's like a double felony.
