    PLAYSTATIONŽNetwork upgrade: Tuesday 08 May

Over the next few weeks, some new and exciting changes will take place in the PLAYSTATIONŽStore. In preparation for this, both PLAYSTATIONŽNetwork and PLAYSTATIONŽStore need to be taken offline for a short while to allow us to carry out the upgrade and maintenance work.

This is scheduled to take place between 16:00 and 19:00 BST (17:00-20:00 CEST) on Tuesday 8th May 2007.

If you are already logged into an online game during this time, you will most likely find that you can continue playing as normal, but you will not be able to log in or start a new game until full service has been restored. You will also not be able to access the Store during this maintenance window.

We are hoping to complete this work in as short a time as possible and apologise for any inconvenience this may cause. But remember that these enhancements are paving the way for new and exciting content that we have planned for the Store!

Is this only Europe? I'm betting it has to do with movie / show downloads.

I think it's global, they wouldn't need to take it down for three hours just to add PS1 games to the EU store...

Any upgrades needing server shutdowns have to be considered major upgrades. Can't even imagine what the will be changing, hopefully it will get a bit more professional look for starters.
So many games so little time..

they tell us there will be upgrades, but we don't know what they are. so what is the use- other than the MS additions?

PS. are they making more of a fuss about this particular update- which would lead us to believe something substantial is coming- or is it your normal weekly update?

If by normal you mean a Killzone demo, then yes. LOL.

yeah, I guess it's pretty substantial if they have to take the servers offline. I don't want to speculate it to death for it to only be things no one notices or can appreciate. Maybe it's cosmetic changes? We'll just have to wait to see if there's an appreciable difference on our end. Maybe they're making the servers run faster? Time will tell. Only 4 days from now.

There's a special kind of nerd though, who thinks computers will overtake mankind in thirty years, changing humanity in ways incomprehensible to us now, ignoring the third of the world without electricity. It gives spiritual significance to technology developed primarily for entertainment and warfare and gives nerds something to obsess over that isn't the crushing vacuousness of their lives.

    oh, how I wish...
I also wish I can fly and breath underwater. there is more chance of the latter happening than the first.

hmm, I didn't know that they didn't go offline before. I thought this time they would only be offline for longer.

but as you said, the change may not even be noticeable. in any case, this isn't happening a few months from now, we'll know in a few days.

PS. how many bet the changes are to accommodate for Home? no, that doesn't mean a 'home' icon will appear for everyone, but to make the infrastructore necessary to handle it.

  12. ^my thought, 'paving the way for new and exciting content' sounds like infrastructure to me.

I'd like them to take a leaf out of nintendo's book and do weekly PS1 games. Take a chunk out of the network though, hence network upgrade.

It can't be down already At least not because of tomorrow's upgrade, unless they're getting ready now and interrupt the service briefly because of it.
