does anyone remember this one...the Virtual Boy.
It was introducted as a state of the art 3D video game system that features a stereoscopic display and a 32-bit RISC processor.
Released on August 16, 1995 in the USA, right before the N64 made its debut....launch games including Mario's Tennis, Red Alarm, Galactic Pinball, Teleroboxer.
i grabbed one from ebay for collectable reasons...i still play it when i want to play something different that what is out today. mario clash and wario is alot of fun to play.
Here's what Nintendo said the Virtual Boy is:
"The Virtual Boy, our RISC-based, 32-bit system, produces a 3-D experience not possible on conventional television or LCD screens. The system has two high-resolution, mirror-scanning LED (light emitting diode) displays. Its unique design eliminates all external stimuli, totally immersing players into their own private universe with high-resolution red images against a deep black background. The 3-D experience is enhanced through stereo sound and a new specially-designed, double-grip controller that accommodates multidirectional spatial movement. Virtual Boy is a stand-alone, table-top unit that doesn't connect to a television screen. It is powered by six AA batteries."[/SIZE]
...interestingly enough, the Virtual Boy is nowhere to be found on Nintendo of America's website....hmmmmm
do you guys remember the Virtual Boy?
THERE IS SOMETHING SERIOUSLY ADDICTIVE ABOUT THE WII![]()
I remeber it. My older brother rented it once but i was too young to play it. I remember him sayig it sorta gives you headaches, and its a pain to have to lean over and play it. I wouldn't mind having it just for fun.
I remember my friend had one. I remember the stupid tripod thing too. It was so akward trying to get your head in that thing and play it. I still have nightmares about it.
heh, i remember it. Looks kind of cool.
Pain in the neck. Literally.
But it was a cool idea, and fun to play. My friend had one a long time ago. I used to play the boxing game.
I remember the commercial a little. Never tried it though. I want one to try and to make my nintendo collection more complete.

i loved mario tennis on that thing. now that i think about it, it was the only Virtual boy game i ever played lol. err, it's controller kinda looks like a non-analog gamecube controller
Yeah I rented it when it first came out and my buddy bought one from his boss for 5 bucks. It's an awsome system. The best is getting your party on and then playing. It's beyond intense.

From the NOA webpage:
1995 - Thanks to the outstanding success of Donkey Kong Country, ACM graphics were introduced to the Game Boy system by way of Donkey Kong Land. Along with this great boost to the Game Boy system line, Nintendo also introduced the Play It Loud! series of Game Boy systems. ACM graphics made another appearance on the Super NES with the release of the arcade smash-hit, Killer Instinct. At the same time, Nintendo introduced a 32-bit Virtual Immersion system known as the Virtual Boy. Next, Nintendo responded to the demands of fans with the release of Yoshi's Island: Super Mario World 2. Nintendo even enhanced the quality of ACM graphics for the upcoming release of Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest. Cruis'n USA and Killer Instinct available in local arcades. Celebration of the one-billionth game pak being sold.

fascinating *raises eyebrow*
so what do the carts for that thing look like BTW?

here you can see a little bit the cartridge in the system.
they are shaped like the GB cartridges, but longer and wider
but just about the same thickness as the original GB cartridges.

I remember the Virtual Boy. I think I even played a display model at KB Toys back in the day. Homestar Runner did a great parody of a Virtual Boy game. "Your Head A Splode."
Easily one of the worst systems ever.

I don't remember this, but I did on a report on Nintendo a while back that said it was their worst mistake ever.
Future Starlocke had one, I remember that..
virtual boy probably was their worst system ever.
their worst mistake? hmmmmm, i think that is pretty debatable.
nintendo's worse mistake = N64 cartridge based.
nevertheless, the Virtual Boy was a pretty bad mistake....if only it were in color and not red hues, i wonder if things would have been slightly different.

I don't know about you guys but I find the Virtual Boy to be pretty fun to play. It's so different than anything else out there and it's cool because it's so immersive. You have full field of vision gaming and surround sound on both sides of your ears. I think the concept was awsome. If I could find a virtual boy somewhere I would pick it up in a heartbeat.
