http://www.gamesindustry.biz/content_page.php?aid=23977Sales down dramatically on second week of release
Sales of the PlayStation 3 have dropped dramatically on the second week of release in the UK, with official Chart Track figures revealing a fall of 82 per cent. Chart Track data is gathered from 7000 UK retail outlets representing 90 per cent of the software market, including GAME, Gamestation, Play.com, Asda and HMV.
A spokesperson for Chart Track confirmed the figure to GamesIndustry.biz this afternoon, stating: "Yes, sales of PS3 hardware have dropped by 82 per cent."
Last week, Chart Track revealed that the PlayStation 3 had sold 165,000 units in the first two days following the launch, making it the fastest-selling home console in the UK.
"We publish the first week figures because there's such a clamour for them that we can't keep it a secret," said the spokesperson.
This week's software charts revealed that sales of the top two PlayStation 3 titles, Resistance: Fall of Man and MotorStorm, had dropped by over 60 per cent.
Sony Computer Entertainment Europe declined to comment.
what do you think folks? is it because of shortage of ps3 hardware in the U.K. or.. its just because they overpriced the console?
Um, of course it's going to drop. The launch was last week.
Discussed in other thread. Personal take on it
1) Low Supply ( Places sold out )
2) Lower general shipments by sony. Somewhere i said its 20k a week per retailer or something.
3) Its a week after launch...expected
4) As Viper explained...the percentage makes it sound a lot worse then it is. Do the actual numbers and they are not bad at all still.
5) As VG said ...its only been 2 days in this week....
6) All the stuff VonGak mentioned.
ibut the drop is way too high after just a week after launch.
its obnormal high!
Does this really matter at all?
^ nope
maybe im wrong but hasen't all first days for all system launches been the highest than it usualy levels off or falls?
when has there ever been a system that actualy sells more in week two than the first?
We the people...
It's not numbers 1 or 2 as there was still 400,000 on shelves after the launch and 108,000 of them were sold.
The actual figures are not bad and if it keeps that pace, it will do much better in Europe/PAL than it has fared in the US and Japan combined on a weekly/monthly basis.
So PS3 sold only in UK 30k in second week?
Good job.
that and lack of games ..lack of exclusives , no real TV ads compain ....and many more
Elite have hdmi + bigger HDD and it is for 480$ (so 60gig should 510$ max ) , in japapn PS3 30gb is for 420$ so why sony not put 20Gigs ver here for 420$ as in japan ..at least it will help
Very misleading title & information, everyone on these forums are knowledgable to see FUD clearly...
PS3 is doomzorred!1!
Launch Stock > Post Launch Stock
165k - 82% = ~29700
And this is bad how?
