LOL... and i thought that type of response was restricted to forum members... pricelessFollowing Sony's announcement of its new online community software, PS Home, Nintendo has gone on the offensive, deeming the service "an example of Sony's 'Mii-too' approach."
When asked of the company's thoughts on Sony's online plans, Nintendo told CVG: "This is an example of Sony's "Mii-too" approach. But as Mr. Miyamoto states, Nintendo years ago considered and rejected the type of approach Sony is now taking", presumably referring to creating a virtual online world.
Just in case you missed it, PS3 Home allows players to create their own character, like a 3D avatar, and take it into a realistic online virtual world to interact with PS3 gamers from around the globe.

Nintendo's equivalent avatar system, the Mii Channel, lets gamers make simple cartoon-style characters and save them onto the Wii's internal memory. These Miis can then be imported into games for gameplay, or sent to other Wii consoles via the internet.
Nintendo has clearly opted for a simpler approach - although some say the lack of customisation options make it a bit too basic.
But Nintendo is pleased with it's avatar system, saying: "Miis have become a cultural phenomenon in their own right, appealing well beyond the traditional core gamer audience, and the process of populating them across the Wii universe is just beginning."
3D avatars and real time interaction could become a huge aspect of gaming with the current generation of consoles. But will Microsoft join the party with their own PS3 Home or Mii equivalent?
Xbox Live subscribers have been interacting with each other since the online gaming service launched almost five years ago. Have Sony and Nintendo seen the success the platform achieved and now want a piece of the action?
We're speaking to some very important people at Microsoft later today at GDC and we'll put it to them.
Sony has created some really exciting stuff with PS3 Home. If you guys haven't seen the impressive PS3 Home software in action, check out the teaser trailer now, then have a read of our first hands-on preview.

Guys, does the vitriolic fanatical attacks have to be so widespread in this thread?
Regardless of what some nameless Nintendo rep said, E-mpire forums should not contribute to outrageous company bashing.

years ago ? lol Nintendo is like 20 years behind MS and Sony.
i think the reactions are important Mach and you've got to admit the reaction is quite childish. i'm sure when Sony respond to anything its posted in the reletive threads... surely
no-one seemed to say anything negative about the Wii outsells PS3 thread! we can't have double standards here
if this thread is closed then what does that tell you about some mods who have said nothing about the Wii outsells PS3 thread... it will be clear as day!
There's a difference between Sony fans discussing a fact that Wii outsold PS3 in Japan and resorting to immature attacks like
"Nintendo needs to stop sucking its thumb"
"Nintendo is like 20 years behind MS and Sony." etc
What I'd like to see is more intellectual thoughtful critiques and rebuttals using facts, logic, and reason. Thats the kind of stuff Im used to seeing in many threads of the PS3 forums.

I think Nintendo needs to stop patting themselves on the back. They are probably just pissed that Sony is going to one up them yet again. If Nintendo is all about "innovation" in the gaming industry, then they should be GLAD when a company expands and enhances on ideas.
What's the difference?
What did you expect them to say? That they are happy for Sony and think people will get a great value in buying the PS3?
It's just PR, fohged ahbout iit.
A good point, but remember, they are still competing with each other. They are both trying to do things in their own way. They don't need to feel 'glad' when a competitor has a cool feature, which goes both ways.
A third party that is into 'innovation,' I would only expect someone who has mutual gain relationships with Sony and Ninty to praise both. They won't praise each other, it's just not in the nature of competitive business at this stage and at this calibre and when THIS much money is on the line.
Always remember, just PR. It's 'objectivity' is worth almost nothing, and even less when they're talking about each other.
PR speak isn't limited to Sony and MS.
Notice how the author says, "presumably referring to creating a virtual online world." That's very poor journalism. You don't assume jack. If you don't know what they mean, frikkin ask. It's the job of a journalist to ask.
That's exactly what I mean. When it comes right down to it, production of game consoles is about making money, yet Nintendo usually tries to present itself as a saint in a crusade for games... but really, if they didn't think they would make money, then they'd just stop. My problem is that Nintendo goes on and on as if they just want what's best for 'the gaming world' when really it's all just business... and in terms of business, they can whine if they want about Sony taking/expanding ideas, but in reality, it's good for the entire industry.
Online is just going to be full of assholes no matter how you present it. It would be cool if it was exactly the way they showed in the video, but you know everyone is going to be running around naked cussing and being a jackass.
It reminds me of Second Life. And I heard all that happens in Second Life is simulated fornication.
But still, I have high hopes.
