The Sony units have been doing that since E3 last year. They're running a different firmware, but not sure if that will be incorporated into the *next* firmware, if you know what I mean.

    But I hope so!

that's probably an alpha or something of a CVS build inside sony.

You can run those thumbnails on your current machine guys

It took me a while to realize this, but you just have to fiddle with the menu while you are watching a movie and you should see a button that creates the icon from the next 15 seconds of the movie. It's tight.

I do think they were running new firmware though... I don't see a HOME icon on my XMB

Well, that's that - I've got to create a 'using your PS3' guide; that's just embarrassing that I wouldn't know how to do this given my place writing about this thing. Thanks for the heads up dockthepod.

Oh PS3, how awesome thou art!

They don't need no stinkin Patches!

  19. hahaha you guys didnt' know that? Man, what happened to spending like 3 hours a day just messing with each individual function in your new hardware until you've yanked out every cool feature there is? Ohhhh jaxmkii. I thought you were made of sterner stuff

You can totally already make thumbnail previews, like dockthepod said. But I'm sure he was running on a newer firmware in any case, the ps3 had HOME on it. duuuhhhh. :P

There's a special kind of nerd though, who thinks computers will overtake mankind in thirty years, changing humanity in ways incomprehensible to us now, ignoring the third of the world without electricity. It gives spiritual significance to technology developed primarily for entertainment and warfare and gives nerds something to obsess over that isn't the crushing vacuousness of their lives.
