"According to a recent Blu-ray report published by TVWeek, the high profile launch of Sony’s PlayStation 3 videogames console – which comes equipped with a Blu-ray player built in – has ushered in improved sales of Sony-backed Blu-ray movie titles, and has now seen sales surpass those posted by the rival Toshiba-backed HD-DVD format.
More pointedly, tracked sales figures issued by Nielsen VideoScan and eproductwars.com outline that Blu-ray disc sales are now superseding those posted by the format’s major high definition rival.
Nielsen VideoScan offers that, as of the week ending 18 February, Blu-ray disc sales had secured some 65% of the HD movie market, which is a considerable turnaround against figures amassed in November of 2006, which showed HD-DVD with 63% of format performance.
Founder of eproductwars.com Tony Small commented that Blu-ray overtook its HD-DVD in the middle of January across certain key areas of the website’s chart lists. “By the end of January, [Blu-ray was] taking the lead consistently on nearly all of them,” he claimed.
Beyond the format war related to disc sales, Sony and Toshiba have both been criticised for the emergent frustration and confusion experienced by consumers interested in investing in the HD future. And Sony has received focus finger pointing concerning the high price point related with its standalone Blu-ray hardware and also the new Blu-ray equipped PlayStation 3 game console.
However, following on from Sony’s recent unveiling of a $600 USD Blu-ray player to better match the more accessible price point of HD-DVD players (around $499), Stan Glasgow, President and CEO of Sony, has intonated that 2007 may see the company further reduce its Blu-ray player prices – down to a much more acceptable $299."

they cant because they cant garantee that all will have it. same as using HDD not all have it (360). but unless they can do it in programing that if they have a HDD take advantage of it??Devs are Probably begging to use HD-DVDs

Looks fantasmic on my 71" 1080p.
I don't see Microsoft alienating their previous customers. And that's not really a good thing because they're going to keep supporting the core SKU by releasing a bigger, more expensive and proprietary memory card... which means the HDD will probably never be a standard feature and thus not all games will have the ability to take advantage of it to improve technically.

Oh, and needless to say that Blu-ray is winning. If by the end of April, a month after its proper release here, it is doing better than HD-DVD in Europe (and that's going to be really easy to accomplish), everybody will be able to see that there's no hope for HD-DVD.

You're right. But I don't see how they are pushing one format by indirectly(not) supporting it with their products(games/software,HD-DVD drive Add-on) only movies do.Use a Next generation format for Chrissake! They won't get to the point, yet.Do They think it's not good enough for games or what? BluRay=Games + Movies+ Music(coming soon!) VS. Hd-DVD=Movies+ annnnnnnnd thats it..
What can they do to help get an edge over BluRay?

"BD turn-around"? what turn-around? BD has been in the lead since it launched. the competition is slowing down more and more since then.

And the PS3 hasn't been released in Europe yet.
