God of War 2 Runs on PS3 in 720p

According to IGN's review:

The last two things that we want to talk about unfortunately can't be tested yet as we won't have the boxed copy of the game for a few weeks (though what we've reviewed is the final code), though neither would alter the score in any fashion anyway and we want to point them out. The first is that God of War II will not only be playable on the PlayStation 3, of course, but that it will run at a true HD resolution of 720p. We're unsure as of yet whether or not we'll see additional texture detail because of this, but we'll update this section of the review when we can test it.

Don't know how this works, or what kind of graphical improvement we'll see, but I think it's great that they did this for the PS3 early-adopters. Hmm...do I play on the PS2 with rumble, or on the PS3 in 720p?

Makes waiting for a God of War 3--built from the ground-up for the PS3, a little easier...

The 720p is very unexpected...

I wonder if it's running on the GS/EE chip or in a software emulator....? Because if it's PS3 and not PS2....

And is it textures and res?

And will they be doing this to anything else, perhaps classic PS2 games could be re-released in enhanced versions.

You could do FFX etc high res enhanced. Quite literally Playstation 2.5.

The 720p is very unexpected...

Well, maybe. To be honest, by the time PS2 was launched I expected some PS1 games to take advantage of some PS2 hardware features so that the latest PS1 games would run better somehow on PS2. Actually, I believe some games were fully tested to ensure that they worked perfectly on PS2's backwards compatible mode and that no bugs appeared when smoothing the graphics and cutting the loading times by half, as it was the case with FFIX.
