Naughty Dog's PS3 Game Finally Titled

    http://www.gametab.com/news/806919/
One of the more exciting games shown at E3 2006, one that seemed to jolt the gathered audience to consciousness after Kaz Hirai's hypnotist act, was Naughty Dog's jungle runner that showed up without a proper name. Now, thanks to the trademark hounds at NeoGAF, we can start calling it Uncharted: Drake's Fortune. Awkward? Yes, but better than "Untitled Naughty Dog Game."

Little in the way of details were revealed for Uncharted since May of last year, but we know it features a baseball-jersey clad protagonist who looks more "I'm a Mac" than "I'm a PC" running through the jungle, one rich with foliage and bloom lighting. The trailer for the game promises great animation, awesome platforming, and a dash of stealth. The newly revealed name hints at a quest to reclaim Sir Francis Drake's lost silver fortune from a Caribbean island.

Other fun trademarks uncovered by user gofreak were the EyeToy for PLAYSTATION 3 (aka "EYE3") logo and a mysterious registration and logo for "beats." which looks to be an SCEE submission for distributing music and videos over a network.

  2. Cool, VG also has the same stuff in his thread, pretty weird name if you ask me though. I think it needs some more spunk lol, but I like the old school ring to it.

EDIT: I forgot to bold the names!!11!!one!!1

To me it sounds like a guy named Drake has an uncharted fortune on that island they showed in the trailer at E3 '05.

This very well deserves its own thread if it becomes true

well basically the supposed title for the ND game is Uncharted the rest is the sub-title(well, duh... it's obvious.... Lol ), so uncharted is actually really cool, and this will be a franchise like J&D it seems. I just want something from this game, a video some images, really bad! pleeeeaaaseeee??????

I hope Jak and Daxter isn't over on Next-gen though. Ratchet and Clank for action/platformer and Jak and Daxter for free-roaming/platformer...They better give us another one!

Damn. I'd gotten so used to people on forums calling it "Dude Raider."

That was said by many people when the video first appeared. As for Jason's position, he's basically semi-retired, but still holds a controlling interest in Naughty Dog, so he can jump in any time he wants. Since that retirement, though, he's been more of a crusader making speeches about an idyllic vision of the gaming industry which are all nice in concept, but pretty much impossible to implement, especially in America.

  10. Those character models are absolutely spectacular, I can't wait to see more of this title.

Just thinking of what ND can pull off after what they have shown here with a free roamer like Jak or Jak itself.. wow. I'd love to see Jak continue into next gen as well, has there been news on this? I thought I heard something about Jak coming to PS3 being true.

^Check out Apple's link up top...It's not official, but it's something...

I think its a safe bet though, just like Jaffe is going off into the PS store games, we all know God of War 3 is coming...

For me Jak'n'Daxter took over from Mario as the big name in platformers last generation, to see them dissappear would be unthinkable...

To see them end up like Crash Bandicoot or Spryo is also pretty nasty.

Currently playing: Everything God of War

  13. Thanks for the heads up Omni! And thanks a lot too Apple!

And hell no, I don't want Jak to go the way of Spyro or Crash. They certainly had good respective runs though, very impressive. Jak must live on!! Lol!!!

lol. well that's much better than calling it Indiana Jones next-gen. that title annoys me. no, I am not an Indiana fan. I know, hard to believe. and while we're at it, I am not a Star Wars, Star Treck or other space universe fan. O_o

I remember he mentioned something in his blog a while back about a project called Iron and the Maiden (no relation to the band) but he didn't even say if it was a game or comic or animated feature or what. I don't wait or hang hopes for one-time announcements or hints. too much vapor-ware to care.

it is a given that J&D, R&C and maybe even Sly will continue- the latter would depend on its sales and population. and you don't have to worry about them rottening like Crash and Spyro since their creators will be handling them. Crash and Spyro hit rock-bottom the day Insomniac and ND took their hands off of them.

i know how this game is going to play!

think tombraider or indiana jones with exploration. sounds pretty obvious that doesn't it. now think about downloadable treasure hunts that when played online create a time based treasure hunt for 16 players or more at a time. now think a rally game were you have to follow clues to beat someone to the prize...

so what will that prize be?

If that's Star Wars I to III I can understand, but IV to VI? Come on Z! lol! They are the definitive future fantasy films. True classic gems, love em.

I think he has officially left (aka "released on good behaviour" at the dog pound page) sometime ago. I doubt he owns any part of Naughty Dog either since SCEA bought the studio around the beginning of the PS2 generation, Evan Wells and Stephen White had taken over co-president duties since the beginning of Jak 2 back around 2002, Evan had also taken over the directorial as well as creative directorial duties (both Jak 2 and Jak 3 were much more feature-rich than the original). As much as people would like to give Rubin credit for the Jak games, I don't think the rest of the team as well as Wells got the credit they deserved, and while Rubin certainly enjoyed his little crusade, it was probably a distraction for a team that has been churning out one quality game after another. It's a shame someone like Rubin or Mizuguchi gets so much exposure because they tend to talk more while directors like Hideki Kamiya managed to create some of the best games on the market but don't get the notice for the quality of his craft.

Well good because it's also just wrong. There's actually an Indiana Jones game coming out for next gen consoles, so calling something else Indiana Jones Next Gen is ridonkulous.

There's a special kind of nerd though, who thinks computers will overtake mankind in thirty years, changing humanity in ways incomprehensible to us now, ignoring the third of the world without electricity. It gives spiritual significance to technology developed primarily for entertainment and warfare and gives nerds something to obsess over that isn't the crushing vacuousness of their lives.

They've already said the character artist wasn't based on Rubin at all.

No, Rubin has left Naughty Dog sometime ago, starting from Jak 2, Evan Wells took over directorial/creative directorial duties, and that was around 2002, creatively I'm not even sure if Rubin was that involved with the Jak games after the first one.

Hmm... I interviewed at Naughty Dog about a year ago, and also saw some of them at a conference not much later and they seemed to indicate that he's probably likely to come back nonetheless because his little circling the media is going to fizzle... Also mentioned that he only really picked that time to go off on his crusade because Sony bought him out of half his shares and he got a windfall of money.

It's a shame someone like Rubin or Mizuguchi gets so much exposure because they tend to talk more while directors like Hideki Kamiya managed to create some of the best games on the market but don't get the notice for the quality of his craft.
Conveniently enough, that was one of his points over the course of his crusade. All the same, I get the impression that he never really thought out how to achieve any of the things he talks about. He just echoes what I'm sure everyone would like.
