Thread: Another "Is this TV good?" thread

the "kontrast" on the tv is a bit low, and the lack of component is silly but it seems ok.

I wouldn't trust it. I've never heard of the brand name "Amoi" before. Not that that's necessarily a bad thing, but they tend to be "cheaper" in design, and hence you get what you pay for.

it would be best if you could go to a shop and have a look at the ones on display, that's the best way to tell which is the best for your money.

Well, yeah, but I don't want to go to Germany just to look at TV's. The ferry is 60 USD, you know

Anyway, if you think this is a bad choice, can you give me a link to a good, cheap 1080p TV?

Does it have to be a TV or can it just be a monitor?

If it can be a monitor I'd go for the 24" Monitor:
    http://www1.ap.dell.com/content/prod...hs1&l=en&s=dhs

or pay a little bit extra and get a BenQ with HDMI:

both have HDCP, all prices in AUD

some on this site recommended a Westinghouse, for the life of me can't remember the model and there website is down for me, hopefully someone will fill you in on which model. It may be outside your price range.

EDIT: i did a search on the forums for you and nobody has actually posted a link or a model to the one i was talking about.

You may be better of with a good quality 720p LCD if you are stretching your budget, you won't find much in your price range that has 1080p and supports hdcp.

It has to be a TV, since my parents and I are in this together.

Also, since we only buy a new TV like every 10 years, it has to be 1080p. My parents agree, luckily.

If it has to be 1080p you won't find much in your price range, unless it's from a cheapy brand.

Go grab an Acer AT3705-DTV for :

    http://global.acer.com/products/lcd_...at3705-dtv.htm

It's selling for $1599.99 CDN so it should be much cheaper in the US, EU, etc.

I have this TV, Amoi LC42T1E.

    It's absolutely excellent!

The LCD-panel is manufactured by Chi Mei OptoElectronics and it's very good. (Westinghouse and Toshiba uses the very same panel on their 42" sets)

The Amoi LC42T1E has these input slots: 1 HDMI, 1 Component, 1 VGA, 1 composite (side) and 2 SCART (1 RGB, 1 CVBS/Svideo).

The HDMI-, Component- and VGA-slots accepts video signals up to 1080p/60. The TV does correct deinterlacing and 1080i/50/60 is displayed correctly with all 1080 lines.

There's also a fast and simple way to select video source on this TV. You just press "source" on the remote and then press a number key to select input source, i.e 6=HDMI, 7=Component and so on.

One nice thing is the TV remembers your personal image settings for each input source.

The only shortcoming is poor support for picture-in-picture features. You can only use PiP when you use VGA as selected input source.
