I've been a member for quite awhile but mostly just come read than post. I subscribe to PSM and have read their article about using a tilt controller on PS2 games and gave us their thoughts on how tilt worked for some titles and not others (they mostly just tried to use it for character movement it seems.) Also it seems there are a lot of gripes rumble is gone and people seem to be stuck on the loss. IMHO I've tried to pay attention to the rumble playing my PS2 games since the anouncements and seriously for me I don't even notice it anymore, so meh its gone. What I haven't seen so much is people trying to think of ways beyond just moving the character on screen with tilt. I've thought about it for a bit and got excited over some of the possibilities. Just think...
God of War: Remember in the beginning of the game you fight the Hydra? the first one you come against has you hitting the Triangle button to yank its head to the left, so on for yanking it to the right, up, down... etc. Now take the tile and the SIXAXIS controller and its excelleration sesitivity, you could literally yank the Hydras head left, right, up, down. And what about all the finishing moves he does? Jump on a Cyclops and litterally twist the controller to twist his neck and break it (that one has been thought of, but for the sake a covering ground.) Gotta walk a rope tight wire style keep your balance with the controller....
Sports games: These just scream for a tilt controller! Football games, gotta juke left or right, juke the controller. Gotta dive into the endzone, thrust it forward. It frees up so much to just natural movement. The list could go on... I have some more ideas but wondered if any of you have thoughts on ways the controller could be used. And who knows maybe if the list is great and some dev or someone comes by it, we spark some ideas for them.
Yeah it probably would have been the best of both worlds if rumble was in, but... its not. I see a lot more potential anyway with motion sensing. Lets see if we have some clever ideas for it.
PS. I spelled controller wrong on the title, how embaressing
You'd be twisting off Madusas head*
Ripping out Cyclops' eyes.![]()
Nice, positive outlook... hopefully no trolls appear to bring you down
The possibilities are certainly out there, I can't wait to see what Kojima does with it![]()
Well... the new Madden 2007 for Wii that is coming out at system launch does exactly what you desribe with the jukes and whatnot...
except it does even more becuase there are two accelorometers AND point technology which allows you to do even more crazy things... for example....you can move around with the left nunchuk and then actually make a throwing motion to throw the ball with the Wiimote in your right hand.
^ yeah cool.
Fighting games: pull back quickly to dodge then forward to start a combo. weaving side to side while boxing, pull down to duck then up again while hitting the punch button for a super upper cut.
After reading about Skate, and they seem to have some of these in mind, like being able to control your board in a half pipe by tipping it one way or another while hitting x or something, you could personalize your very own trick, and how well you land it depends of regaing your balance with it after you land.
I was also thinking while flying jets... yes it could be controlled by the tilt. But what about in a cock pit view, while flying with tilt it frees up the anolog sticks to look to your left and and see your wing man while keeping complete control of the jet or even scanning the sky for bogeys while still keeping complete control. Feels like it could be really immersive.
Mercury: PS3. Need I say more?
Yes? Marble madness, or those maze games with the little ball and holes to avoid falling into. Pac man with tilt control. Camera angles..
very good thoughts
Music, The Most Beautiful.
Ah.. but i have increadibly unsteady hands.. and i move alot 'with' the game
how about adding curl in a free kick in Pro evo ('soccer')
What about maybe using it as a more natural navigation in menus
Or, for casting spells in a game (FF?), roll for spell A, Pitch left for B, right for C.. ..
simply adjust the sensing or do with out it completely.Ah.. but i have increadibly unsteady hands.. and i move alot 'with' the game
we'll have to wait and see what ideas and trial and errors devs come up with.how about adding curl in a free kick in Pro evo ('soccer')

OPM ran the same thing- or close to it. that is just in case you did mean PSM.I subscribe to PSM and have read their article about using a tilt controller on PS2 games![]()

i'd like to see a mercury game on the PS3 that uses the tilt functionality to move those multicolored, mercury blobs around. if you combine the motion sensing with the Eye-toy... egg races, flying kites... hundreds of minigames... now add Online... volleyball... virtual pong...
LocoRoco PS3.......
PSN:venomlvjr
nah. loco roco is a pure portable game. It's not a deep sit down and play game by any means. I love it for that reason. It's perfect for the psp cuz you can just play it anywhere at any time and have fun, and it's not very demanding (as easy or hard as you want it to be). It wouldn't make much sense on a home console.
I would like to see versions of LocoRoco and Mercury as downloadble games on Playstation Network Platform. Maybe they could tweak Lumines too to work with the sixaxis and sell that on PNP aswell.
Go check out Flow for PS3-it looks quite fun and uses the controller well...I think the guys working on Heavenly Sword said they working on the mini games and trying to use the tilt controller for it....Really good ideas-I think most if not all will come to fruition pretty soon...
“Had the religion of Christianity been preserved according to the ordinances of the Founder, the state and commonwealth of Christendom would have been far more united and happy than they are. Nor can there be a greater proof of its decadence than the fact that the nearer people are to the Church, the head of their religion, the less religious are they.”
"By their Fruits, you will recognize them..."
It's also a PC-game, though it's not as long as the PS3 version.

Tilt adds so much new potential input options, it's nuts. Think about this. Press a button and it has one effect. Hold the button and tilt and you open up a whole new range of input for that one button alone.
PS: Ice, I fixed yoru thread title for you.
viper i never thought of that. Would be pretty slick in many games, and protects against accidental turns
I think they did that in Warhawk push a button and tilt right or left and you do a barrel roll, if I remember right.

The controller scheme is probably the worst aspect of the PS3 IMO. I sincerely hope it doenst turn out to be how Im picturing it.
