Here's a brief text copy paste from the article. You can read the rest in the thumbnail at the bottom of this post.
Explains Chesire: “We looked at the middleware solutions we could use - we had no axe to grind, frankly, and just wanted to find the technology we could have ready for th next-gen so we weren’t left catching up in ten years’ time. We looked around at the Renderwares and the Unreals, but nothing really fulfilled our requirements – specifically for the PS3, anyway.”
So what do you do when your ideal platform is PS3? The answer is to speak to Sony. And together, Codemasters and Sony have come up with another answer: Neon.
A new next-gen engine built from scratch over the past year and a half, it’s been a significant investment – and is a new tool with an unique and
interesting backstory. “Sony knew early on that it was going to be hard to get the very best out of the PS3 early on, so the Japan office commissioned a team in Europe to start devising new technology and tools,” says Cheshire.
“We really only found out about it because a guy on that team is friends with a coder at Sony, but our guys have worked very hard on building that relationship with them. What we were able to do is exploit something that Sony was developing internally, which we were the first to see – and since then we’ve worked very closely with Sony. It’s a two-way street.”
I wonder how this new engine would look like. It's mostly being developed by Codemasters with less input from Sony. Can't wait to see it. The interesting thing is, if this looks anything close to Motorstorm or above it. Every PS3 developer can look forward to getting it as part of the PS3 tools and middleware. Meaning, this NEON game engine could become the starting(or minimum) graphics bar for developers to create graphics on PS3 if they choose it to create their games.
What's with all this news, yoshaw? why are you so awesome????
Wow, this looks fantastic. The quote about the realization of next gen and how having engines available to all would help developers in putting the games out.
Hopefully that's the same view Sony has interally with SCEWW, so that the guys there all benefit from working with each other.
It's somewhat funny that the same Neon engine will be used for Codemasters' Xbox 360 titles too
Neon will eventually power all the Codemasters in-house next gen games, including 360
So many games so little time..
^But... if you read the article carefully, it says that Codemasters is working on their version of NEON to produce their multiplatform games that has about 20% input from Sony!
WHILE at the same time, SONY JAPAN was already working internally on their own version of NEON graphics engine, for a year and a half, specifically being produced as a PS3 tools and middleware solution for PS3 devs all over. It's a two way street. Sony is using Codemasters to help bring up the quality and then some. While working internally on the same project themselves that caters NEON to be produced as a middleware solution ready for developers, who get PS3 devkits.
How cool would that be?
As you say, it's a win-win.
And the more good driving games come out the happier I get Not that I'm looking forward to CMR Dirt, and it might have some hard time competing with MotorStorm.
So many games so little time..
this is great news. this may be an example of the benefits of Sony's World Wide Studios effort.
I can see more and more devs working together with SOny like this.

In business, it's always a good thing when you make it a win-win situation.
That is because yoshaw is not one person, but many persons.Originally Posted by LaLiLuLeLo2003

Yoshaw is really the JFK AI, salvaged from Arsenal Gear by The Patriots!!!
What, you doubt me?
Codemasters are awesome at graphics engines. So I trust their discretion.
wow is that a new race game? it definitely looks better then MotorStorm
But animation and physics what makes a game to be qualified as next-gen.

This is nice news. If this takes off and become a middle ware for developers, then inexperienced designers games will atleast be Motorstorm quality, which is already impressive.
