Did we play the same game?Originally Posted by BillCosby

Yeah your right about that, I guess what really impressed me was the sheer scope of the game. I felt so miniscule and as if the world really could go on without me even if I didn't play it. That was the first time I had ever felt that about a game, so it connected with me quite a lot.
But back on subject, Gears of War should be a great game, I'm guessing a 9.0, but it won't be the type of game to revolutionalize shooters, that will be either Bioshock (single player) or Halo 3.
My bet is that GoW will not even make a 9 out of 10 im betting a 7. Its gonna be another generic shooter. Probably one designed for people with ADD. I say that b/c its a cliffyb game. UT is the same way.
AA is ALWAYS PRESENT IN SCREENSHOTS, UNLESS ALREADY DOCTORED. stop bitching
Great looking GoW videos, off cam but decent brightness/contrast, single player mode.

Yea this game is beautifull . So far nothing on the ps3 or the xbox 360 (except mabye mass effect but for other reasons ) comes close
I'm going to get alot of play time on this .
Oh if anyone is in nyc tommorow for the event let me know . I'm leaving at 2pm so i'm hopefully there at 3ish and I get to play it
ehm... i thought the whole thing about GeOW was to be EPIC and CINEMATIC in every way that UT isn't. If not they would call it UT 2007 or UT 360.Originally Posted by BillCosby

However my opinion is correct
Was at the gow event in the city. Was friggen awsome.
First off . When walking into the thearter they gave us gow shirts. They were black with the red gow symbol off center and on the back near the neck / shoulder area it had emergance day and the date . At every seat on the arm rests were stickers of Gow with again the symbol and either Cog of the locust on it and of course the date of release again .
In the front of the thearter were tables (folding tables from the look of it) and chairs . Back to back were samsung lcd monitors the same as the kiosks . Each tv had 2 people on it in split screen (except for 1 , but more on that in a bit) there were 4 tvs for each side (locust and cog) so a total of 8 vs 8 player deathmatch . You may ask well if one tv had only 1 player on it , how do you get 16 palyers ? Well simple. One lucky bastard got to play on the movie screen.
They first started off with the movie . Texas chain saw , it was actually quite good . It takes place before the Jessica biel remake of the original (which I felt was just eh) the movie wasn't bad and tied in well with that . You learn how the uncle is in the wheel chair and some other stuff that inter connects . I thought the blonde girl would end up being the blonde from the start of the other movie but I was wrong and a bit disapointed by that . All in all though its worth going to the movie if you like gorey stuff .
After the movie those who wanted to play the game got to stay for a short run through of the the openin board . Its been seen in many videos . Some guy Jeff from epic ran through it . He picked casual and went through the practice section first. It was fun as he ouldn't use the nades (kept missing ) and he died when they busted through the door . However it looked great . There was loading when something big would happen like a chopper flying over head and blowing up . But other than that it was very smooth.
After he ran through it we got to play it . I was able to play it 5 times . The three boards were cannal I believe in which your in a river with bridges. It was fun lots of cover to use , the water looked nice . We played one board with a giant stair case . Almost like a garden . It was interesting as there were some good sniper spots and some good stompings on the stairs . We also played a board similar to the stair one however there was a destroyed hosue on one side in which you could go upstairs and then a bunch of broken walls on another side .
All in all the frame rate was very smooth with only a few slow downs when the other player on split screen died or you used the chain saw .
The chain saw really got the crowd going . Everytime someone used it on the movie screen everyone flipped out and started screaming . However actually using the chain saw was a bit of a problem. Sometimes it really did come down to chance if two people went to use it at once.
The other problem in the game is using the weapons . To many times I shot someone 6 or 7 times in a row with the shot gun only to end up hacked to bits iwth the chain saw . Apparently you can reload a special way to do more damage which would hopefully knock down that 6+ shots down to 3 or so to kill the bad guy. But the reloading wasn't exactly somethign I got to practice.
Anyway here is a little something I stole from the show for you all so you can see the controls

Wow if true and it only cost 10m ..... MS / Epic are going to be making a killing This game will most likely become a million seller before the end of the yearGamesindustry.biz reports:
...Epic Games VP Mark Rein has slammed suggestions that huge budgets are required to create next-gen games, revealing that forthcoming Xbox 360 title Gears of War has cost "around $10 million" to produce.
Speaking at the London Games Summit, Rein said that it's taken a team of 20 - 30 people around two years to complete work on GOW - arguing that despite claims by some industry figures, it's still possible to create next-gen titles using medium sized teams and without gigantic budgets.
GOW, he continued, "wasn't cheap but didn't cost the crazy figures you hear other companies quoting of $20, $30 million". Rein made similar comments in an interview with GI.biz last year, where he accused "big companies like EA" of "going around trying to scare people".
When asked by an audience member how much GOW had cost to produce, Rein replied, "So far, around $10 million, maybe a little less...

Of course I know the developer is called Epic. I should since I have played their games since unreal first came out.
But "epic" also means "A literary or dramatic composition that resembles an extended narrative poem celebrating heroic feats."
Then again... I guess you don't know what that means...
Just kidding... you have the right to your opinion so sorry for calling you a noob.

ANyway in gears of war its basicly taking the gun above your head and shooting . That way your not out of cover but you can still try and hit someone . Its good if your trying to provide a spray of bullets so your friend can make a move to the next section of cover.
