All the proof you need is that Ocelot is the Sorrow's son, which is why he has his capabilities as a medium for the dead and Liquid can still communicate through him just by being in his arm
Anyways, I'll be watching the Snake Eater movie tonight (the bonus disc in the limited edition of Subsistence) as my refresher before PORTABLE OPS comes out tomorrow! W00T! Anybody else get that badass PSP case?

If you're an MGS fan, and getting MGS PO, read this, or I'll bludgeon you with a rubber ducky.
Posted in the MGS4/MGS PO threads.
Random comment -- last night I went to an acoustic performance by James Walsh, the singer of Starsailor, whom you might (and should!) remember Kojima had their song "Way to Fall" on the credits for MGS3
Long live the MGS4 thread!![]()
Someone recommended him the latest "Starfish" album, but he misheard the band's name and he bought Starsailor's album by mistake. When he found out he bought the wrong one, he said he was glad some innocuous mistakes are committed from time to time since they lead to good discoveries, as he loved "Way to Fall" and would probably have never listened to that song otherwise![]()

^That is frigging awesome! 'Way to Fall' was so good for the ending too.
I watched Subsistence last night and then listened to Way to fall today. It was then followed by Calling to the night, which is song played in the ending credits of MGS:PO.
And while watching Subsistence, I came to a realization. I think Granin played a HUGE part in shaping Big Boss. When you combine the 'loyal to the mission' from The Boss with Granin's speech, it almost seems like reinforcement. Regardless that Snake is an enemy, he is helping him because of the love that he has for his country. I was kind of drunk when watching so it might not be a full connection. I'll have to rewatch the cutscene in Demo Theatre.
That's very possible. I haven't beaten PO yet (stupid finals), but when Snake gives the first soldier you capture that lecture about loyalty, it certainly seems like there's some Granin in there too, whether Kojima intended it or not. Granin came out like a hero in MGS3, like he wanted to (except for the whole MG Rex thing, but we can forgive that)
New MGS4 Rumor:
Source: http://ps3.qj.net/Kojima-no-more-bac...g/49/aid/77646Kojima: no more back-to-the-wall for Snake?
Quite interesting. Xgrayninja posts in the IGN Boards what he claims are snippets of an interview between Gamepro and Hideo Kojima, but we can't seem to find the said interview at GamePro (exclusive to the GamePro mag, maybe?). According to one snippet, the centerfold-quality "back-to-the-wall" stealth pose Snake pulls in prior outings is gone. Hideo, elaborates:
(The signature Snake pose) rarely happens on the battlefield. Nobody is cool enough to hide like that. By eliminating this move, it's more like real life. Snake can hide behind something, then sneak a peek and shoot. There are more actions to it, and it's smoother that way.
There would have been some use for a back-to-the-wall, like, you know, up on a ledge only a foot's length in width, or when you're trying to squeeze through a gap as narrow as Snake is fat (which is to say, not at all). If all this is true, then we're wondering how Snake's gonna handle these situations. We could go over ALL the screenshots of MGS4 since it was first announced, to look for one instance of back-to-the-wall, but besides being time-consuming, it doesn't cover for the possibility that Kojima Productions might have changed or deleted that move since then.
Oh well, without a Gamepro mag to inspect, our own backs are against the wall on this one, and we're leaving it as a Rumor until we find confirmation. In the meantime, here are the other snippets of that Gamepro-Kojima interview. That some of these are confirmed adds legitimacy, but just to be sure, we'd like to see the real deal itself.
Story set against the backdrop of a full-blown World War III (Oh great, Philantrophy failed.)
Yes, we know Kojima misses rumble. What we haven't heard is that he's gone and asked Ken Kutaragi to bring it back.
Gunplay to be based, at least partially, "in the near-future world, and will only deviate for the sake of 'interesting game design'
(he says an example would be the remote controlled missile in MGS1 and #@%!1112#@%!).
" We don't know how this affects Ocelot's bullet-bouncing gunplay.
Run and gun = "you have to be prepared." Nothing on what to be prepared for, but we're betting a tidal wave of lead, high explosive, and Metal Gears.
Trade your gun mods with other gun mods, via online or through some other form of player-sharing.
Long cutscenes bringing you down? Hideo says that he didn't want to cut down on the cinemas on the previous games because the emotional impact would take a hit. But he hears 'ya. "This time, yes, I am thinking about making them shorter."
Game connectivity between MGS4 and MPO.
Working with the Cell (the PS3 chip, not Dead Cell)? "Overall, I think it is difficult, of course. But if it's easy and simple, then how can you differentiate from other games?... I think that the PS3 was difficult to work with...but so was the PS2."
Well, if you've got No Place To Hide but in broad daylight and with optical camouflage, what's the enemy's ability to find you? Kojima says the team's "adjusting" (that AI, we guess), but a safe bet is that if an enemy is scared crapless, he's gonna be too preoccupied to kick every stone on the street, but if he's calm, he's going to be more thorough in his search.
Finally, CQC or hand-to-hand. "hand-to-hand weapons play a big role in MGS4, but declines to elaborate because 'that gives away a little bit of how you complete the game, actually.'" Didn't every game in the series generally end with a hand-to-hand boss fight?
I will miss the camera angle that so many games stole... (if this rumor is true...)
It's good to hear that Kojima is willing to take chances with the last installment of the title. I can't wait to see some new info on the game come E3 2007.
smells like BS to me, I'll wait for official confirmation.
The Videogame Innovation began in 1966 with Ralph Baer, not with Nintendo.

Well, IGN is pretty legitimate, but some of this sounds like BS to me, too.
Especially the part about shorter cutscenes.
EDIT: it's not from the main IGN site, it's from the IGN forums!!!
Now I really doubt the legitimacy of this.

IGN might be legitimate...but the IGN boards? lol. Don't think so. Little use for having your back to the wall in the battle field? Not if your a spy or a secret agent. Sounds like BS to me too.
PS3 Aka. The Swiss Army knife of Consoles:If theres anything it can't do...you probably shouldn't be doing it.
Sounds kind of fishy....
Is the normal MGS top-down view gonna still be in the game? I'm gonna be a little uncomfortable with an MGS that doesn't have a top down view...
I liked in Subsistence for the single player that it let you on the fly choose between both types of cameras. But like if it's totally removed?
I'm just saying because the gameplay and level design of MGS's levels, you can easily tell they are made to be played with the MGS top down and cinematic, stylized camera angle. In some situations the third person camera angle is impossible and actually harder to use (for example, the part in MGS3 whenever it's a tight area, also the part before you reach the lab where you meet Granin with the multilevel stair complex, the MGS camera actually works better in those areas).
Another reason I ask is because in the last boss for MGS3 in Subsistence, it doesn't let you use the third person camera, and it's obvious, it would not be the same. The special computer controlled camera is sometimes frustrating (not often in the last level) but it makes for a different gameplay experience than if you did have control over the camera.
Maybe this is just me being nostalgic or not wanting to let go of the old camera or maybe just because it was mentioned no back to wall stuff (please don't do that, that would suck balls), but I think a scenario specific camera is a staple of the MGS series and should stay, and like Subsistence, let you go between each of them at the very least most of the time.
But honestly, after playing MGS1 so much lately, the fixed camera angles make for a truly unique experience and make it feel so... MGS.
^ You make a good point and hopefully Kojima does not stray too far from the proven MGS gameplay mechanics... In my opinion the primary core of MGS is the story and cut scenes I hope this aspect remains intact.
Honestly, I have no worries, because when has Kojima let us down?
No flattening against a wall? That's the basis for the hide-and-seek that MGS was based off of. Since when did Kojima stop wanting Snake to look cool? He smoked a cigarette just before his truck got ambushed by tons of soldiers and he casually jumped off the truck in the middle of intense fire... that was pretty f'ing cool to me!
*cough*Its a video game*cough*
