    Release Date: 2007
    Multiplayer: Yes
    Online: Yes
    Supports 1080p
    Developer: EA Vancouver

"Depending on how fast you're going and what angle you hit the curb at, each grind will be slightly different than before"

"...a skateboarding game that captures the true spirit and soul of the sport, while evolving the interface into something far more intuitive and lifelike"

Many of the developers working on Skate are veteran skaters themselves.

New innovative control scheme called flickit. "...dual analog scheme..."

From what I read here, it sounds like the new system is sort of like the new control system of NHL 2007. It sounds like you will have complete control of your moves in this game.

"Because the skating is driven by physics-driven animation, the nuances of the type, location, and speed of stick movement will drive every trick to feel unique"

So far, 14 pro skaters signed to be in the game.

You will have to move on foot at times. You can't skate up a flight of stairs. "...don't expect anything remotely like Tony Hawk."

"...Create your own character from scratch. Better yet, loosen/tighten your trucks and feel how the physics-based gameplay really makes this game different."

PSM has actually played the game and says bascially everything I mentioned above, is true. You just don't hit a rail and sort of stick it. "Our speed and angles of approach resulted in short grinds, long grinds, or simply missing the rail altogether. It's far more realistic, but not frustratingly so."

It seems like as you get better at the game, you get a real feeling of accomplishment as you would at getting better at skateboarding in real life.

The game's camera mimics a skateboarder following you. Like in a skate video.

Damn, I was reading something here, and this game really lets you take your own path.

"Skate records you while you play." You can watch the replay through a dozen different angles. You can also save the replay, and share it with friends online.

This isn't confirmed, but the way PSM says it.."we have a good feeling that you'll be able to cut a bunch of your best clips to make your own skate video."

  2. I can't wait to see how this game turns out. I used to be a THPS fan until the series started to slump after it's high with THPS 3. Skateboarding used to be my thing and I am still mildly interested in it when it passes me by.

What I used to want before was a realistic skating game and I'm pretty damn excited that this could be that game. I love all the ideas like how you enter your grind determines what grind you end up doing which makes perfect sense when you are skateboarding in real life.

This game could be really, really great!

Thanks a lot for the heads up!

This Skate game sounds great. I'm so tired of Tony Hawk.

  6. I hope this turns out to be a good game. I'm glad someone has finaly had the ballz to take on TH. But damn, I wish this was an EA BIG game then it would get the SSX treatment.

I liked the first two THPS games, but I've lost all interest in all skateboarding games. But I am happy Lego Star Wars II and Valkyrie Profile 2: Silmeria received great reviews. =D

Well, PS3's controller opens up a whole new can of worms for skateboarding games.

  9. Valkyrie Profile got a 9, awsome... sorry

Last skateboarding game I played that wasn't Tony Hawk sucked bad, but then again the last Tony Hawk I played sucked as well, I still have high hopes for project 8.

Hopefully Skate will truely make skateboarding more realistic, a move I've been hoping the TH series would make for quite some time. After reading this article three times I am really excited for this game. Awsomeness.

I was just wondering, how come EA doesn't make a werstling game? they make many Sports games (possibly more than everyone else's combined!)

I am excited to hear this. if EA BIG handles this, you are guaranteed 'crazy-action-adrinaline-pumper'. I bet they will re-fresh the aging Tony Hawk.

anything EA can do Konami can do better

but seriously, sounds pretty sweet. Could all be PR or could actually be something special. Skateboarding games have been missing some spark in the past howmanyever years.

Lets hope to love it, let's hope the don't screw this up.
    It's got potential

PSM is kicking OPM's ass ALL OVER, OPM's coverage of the PS3 has been complete and utter crap for the past year, it's shameful for a magazine with "official" in its title. Shameful. I don't even care if Ziff pays for it, Playstation Underground pays for those demo discs, Playstation Underground should take away the demo discs AND the official title given Ziff/1UP as a whole has done nothing but trash the PS3 for the past year, and the editors in charge of covering the PS3 completely lack any sort of enthusiasm whatsoever for both the system and its games.

Damn it Yoshaw, I gave you too much + rep now I can't give you anymore for stuff like this. Oh well.
