E3 2006: MotorStorm Missing From E3
Racing title from Evolution Studios nowhere to be seen.
by Jeff Haynes
May 10, 2006 - One of the first surprises of E3 was the absence of MotorStorm. The fast-paced off road racer/demolition derby title was nowhere to be seen at the Sony booth, and didn't seem to be hidden behind closed doors. Nor is the title included in any press info from Sony.
This runs counter to what Phil Harrison and the development staff from Evolution Studios said at GDC in March when they assured the crowd that the title would be playable at the show in May. It also reinforces the surprising lack of footage or acknowledgement at the Sony press conference on Monday.
We'll have more details on the title as we receive them.
Yeah that is odd, it was supposed to be a launch title or so I recall. Maybe they it just needs more work, but even then, they must have something that is at least remotely playable, even if it does not have the polish of other games like Heavenly Sword. I was really looking forward to seeing it in action, but there is always later to be blown away by it I guess.

Yup, they only show the stuff that looks good, Motorstorm will need more work.
Either that or work on Motorstorm is so scatter that a playble demo is not yet possible.

Maybe they were working on a motion-sensing control scheme and couldnt get it done in time.
Maybe they didn't have time to make a demo for E3, and they have to spend all their time getting it ready for launch.
Dunno--Evolution is pretty damn small--check their web site out it's like over a year out of date and barely discusses motorstorm. Could be lots of things, financial problems (good possibility), needs work, etc. Doesn't look like they have a lot of revenue coming in the door to support devolopment, so they very easily could be having problems.

Well, it's probably not finanicial. If there's any finincial problem, I am pretty sure Sony is helping out.

IIf that's the case the game probably just isn't up to snuff. I'm sure they don't want 20 million people screaming "HA it doesn't look exactly like E3 2005 trailer!" Ditto, for Killzone. Probably both just need some more time in the oven. A half baked cake ain't so tasty.

i think its a more obvious reason, Motorstorm and Killzone were the most hyped up CG boosted first party games last year, the main reason why everyone went crazy about the ps3, i think the games arent close to the videos we saw which is why Sony chose not to show them
look at last year's first party game and their current E3 form
Resistance - looks on par or better then last year
Heavingly sword - looks as good as last year minus few effects
Forumla 1 - looks very close
Warhawk - looks even better
Gran turismo - still looking like gran turismo 4 only in full HD this time
My bet is that Killzone and Motorstorm are far from what we saw last year this why they chose not to show them to prevent negative responses from the press
the rest of last year CG trailers like tekken were third party so its left to their individual companies to decide
EDIT: koldfuzion exactly my point, sorry we posted the same time!!![]()
GT4-HD is GT4 PS2, not PS3. It's just in 1080p. why do people keep thinking the GT footage is representation of what it will look like on PS3! oyy

Yes the game *is* playable by the media today - and I actually got a ten minute interview with one of the developers. I'll be distilling the footage into something useful in terms of info for the article I put up on it, and while we're at it, I was able to interview two of Insomniac's devs for five minutes each as well.
Luckily all my questions are all technical all the time.
PS - I saw the game played for ten minutes and then played it myself. I have a lot of good things to say about it in terms of the physics and other effects in play. The mud ruts stay throughout the entire race, all vehicles leave them, they effect traction on the track, and each vehicle is fully destructible with physics determining how the in-engine 'break-up' tosses the pieces around.
I'll expand more on it in my article.
