    Question d pad woes

Anybody else find the d pad a little frustrating to use in games? Im adjusting to it, but I still find I have to mash down in games such as street fighter when crouching and blocking. I love the psp otherwise.

Well, first off welcome to the forums! I hope you enjoy your stay.....
So how long have you had your PSP? (just curious)

Anywho, the only caveat I notice is that after extensive use my hands are very stiff, but I haven't really noticed and issue with the controls themselves. Of course taking short breaks and stretching your muscles can remedy that.

Is SFam3 your favorite game right now? Mine current favs are Syphon Filter and Daxter.

yea, the d-pad is really bad on fighting games. When they do a redesign of the psp, they should really look into changing the dpad. Anyone know any good looking dpad mods out there? That actually looks good.

The hand cramp is a registered trademark of GameBoy and you Sony fans can't have the cramped hands

    </sarcasm>

j/k, all handhelds give you the cramps after time.

I thought the D-pad was the same as all PS D-pads? Is it the angle or something?

There's a mode you can do to adjust the D-pad. It'll help you do diagonals, let me find a link to a guy that does the mods for like 10$.

The beauty of the Japanese units is they have higher D-pads. I can easily perform diagonals on my unmodded "Ceramic White" model PSP.

I heard the reason why North American PSPs have sunken D-pads and face buttons is so MP3 playback isn't interrupted then the system is in the owner's pocket. I personally think it's foolish of SCEA to consider the PSP a multimedia device above a gaming device.

Well it's better but it doesn't work as well as a Playstation pad. I still have issues doing proper diagnonals

Anyways heres directions for the mod:

SFA3Max, plus I just got Popolocrois and looking forward to playing it. I got it for Christmas last year-the psp I mean. Got rid of all my nintendo systems because I just dont like the direction Ninty's going. I respect them, but I need Wipout and Untold Legends over Animal Crossing and Mario Kart. I got bored with them quick. Love all the multimedia functions of the psp, especially web browsing and mp3 playback. I admit it. I'm a sony fanboy. Nintendos a great company but I need more serious games than that. Dont mean to offend anyone. just my feelings. Thank you for the welcome Dude.

    Sorry for the double post.

  13. If they redesign the D-PAD, the psp wouldnt look as beautiful as it is now.

they simply design the D-Pad like it is now just to match the Square-Circle-X-Triangle buttons

Its very frustrating at first, but you will eventually get used to the Dpad in no time.

I started to pwn noobs in SFAmax in no time.

They also could have made the D-pad smaller instead of having it symmetrical to the buttons to allow easier movement. In this case useability prevails over appearance.

all they needed to add was another little joystick nub on the right side somewhere. That's my opinion though...

That wouldn't help with fighting games.

I've never had a problem at all with the D-pad. The analogue nub on the other hand, it's a little annoying at first.

The d-pad only really bothered me in Darkstalkers. Otherwise I think it's just fine.

& PopoloCrois is such an awesome game. It starts out a little slow, but the battle system is just downright fun & the storyline sucked me in so much that I was crying at multiple points during the game.
