8th SPE unlocked?

Today, Sony Computer Entertainment CEO, Ken Kutaragi, announced that the PS3's Cell will feature the long-wanted 8th SPE. Kutaragi stated that the only reason that Sony had locked the Cell at 7 SPE's, was because of the attempted spring launch, which made it unrealistic to implement all 8 SPE's. With that out of the way, Kutaragi plans to unleash the Cell's full power. IGN commented on this as a possibility last month, due to IBM reporting very high yield-rates on the Cell, which we speculated could lead to this. Watch this space for more info as it comes.

Regardless on what kind of news this is... for the next 24 hours I won't believe anything because it's April 1st.

Even if this is something that shouldn't be joked about I won't beleive it untill April 2nd. If it is true then what could it mean for the PS3's capabilities?

OK, That ROCKS! They took away the 7th SPE, well that kinda sucks. Wait......we gonna add the 8th, so you get what you had before minus having to waste processing power for the OS. Handy is right though, it could be an April Fool's joke.

8 SPEs huh?

Sony just announced that in-light of this recent developement they are now going to trash the roughly 6 million PS3 units they have for the FY ending in 2006. Turns out Sony can't turn on the 8th SPE once the console is finished which means Sony is back to square one!
