This is sad... People are getting into fist fights and being hospitalized over a F***ing video game console! Fanboyism has gone too far. Kinda reminds me of the "east coast vs. west coast" battles in the rap industry. What's next, Bill Gates gets killed in a drive by shooting by an asian looking male while on a motorcycle while driving to his office in redmond? Everyone needs to realize that it's the competition that drive the game companies to innovate, = better product for all of us!

i actually started a thread a while back that considered this and others problems that are going to become regular occurances. you are right; it is sad, but its also inevitable. we are beginning to brand ourselves and pick sides inadvertantly. i myself prefer Sony, but note i only say prefer. other consoles (and handhelds) have something to offer, but i think the trouble is that a majority of the so called flame baiters are very young and ill advised. its like road rage. drivers feel safe in their closed environment and don't think twice about flicking a middle finger or yelling abuse at another driver that they believe has done something wrong. the trouble is that those drivers have started to stop and do something about it. thats were we are heading with video games. its also the subliminal messages inherant in some genres. too many games focus soley on getting revenge or just killing anyone that is wearing different clothing (uniform, street gear, bandannas, etc..) where is the morality or pjilosophy. MGS has a very complex morality that challenges us to reconcider just who the bad guy is and how we could be being manipulated.

the companies are fighting! where do you think all these rumours of coming events that never materialise come from? not just the press. its a great way of making Sony appear to recind on their promises and so we speculate on whether the hardware will be as good as they say as well! this industry is the biggest earner bar none. money = power = control = conditioning = more money.

I was insinuating that companys dont go to each and start to beat the crap into each other.

That's just kids bugging each other. I'm sure it wasn't as cut & dry as a brother saying "Xbox 360 is better than PS3." and then getting his face kicked in. It was probably nagging and constant bickering between the two like brothers will often have. I remember I used to go after my brother (I'd never try to kick him in the face, but I'd attack him hehe) because he'd constantly bug me saying stuff he knew would grind my gears, like Our Lady Peace being a rip-off of Radiohead or something like that (which isn't true!!). As stupid as it sounds, it was something between brothers that he knew would make me mad because it was coming from him and he knew how to make me mad, so I imagine this is the same thing.

If this occured at a launch party between two strangers I'd chalk it more up to fanboyism (though I never use that word), but I think this is just brotherly bickering.

As bad as stuff like this is, it isn't any worse than sports fans have repeatedly became. I've frequently seen videos of crowds of sports fans tearing each other apart over a game. We're just seeing the same stupidity spreading to fans of a different type of gaming and fanboyism.

How many debates have we had in here over the same thing. Of course everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but tell me many of these debates dont result in flames or the like and members becoming unpatient with each other. I wish people would understand why fanboyism is stupid. There are THREE video game companies coming out with major consoles. That means you get YOUR choice to pick from three companies who are all trying to beat each other out by giving gamers the best experience.

While you may prefer one of the three consoles, but if you honestly HATE one of them to a point where you get angry about it or refuse to play it then you are messed up in the head. There are 3 experiences that will all have their pluses and minuses, and they will all have awesome exclusive games that any gamer should enjoy.

This is horrible. Someone attacking someone else because of an opinion that something is better than something that doesn't even exist yet. The kid's opinion is retarded (not so much that he prefers the 360, but that the PS3 isn't even out), and the other kid responded in a rediculous way. I just hope I can strangle him before Jack Thompson gets full legal rights to bad things happening to that kid.
