In the first shot, it looks like they're using SpeedTree, no? Look at the trees with the light green leaves towards the right side.

LOL, I honestly have no idea. The last golf game I played was on N64 near the beginning of it's life. I mean I didn't think it was trying to look real, I was just trying to comment on the 'depth' really.

Well, I'm not exactly a big golf afficionado or anything, I just assumed everyone knew what the HSG folks looked like. And it really does look like they were emphasizing depth/draw distance over everything else.

BTW, the shots I posted removed most of the unnecessary pink layer over the images.

Hot Shots Golf has always been a good, yet cartoony Anime series. Obviously it’s confirmed for the PS3. It’s made by Sony (SCEI, as it were).

Nice art style for the foliage though.

*Sigh* Now they're talking about how the shot with the cherry blossom trees is a photo. Notice the trees closest to you in that shot, both of them have the exact same "arching" branch, one is just rotated slightly more than the other one.

Golf games are great, nice games just to chill to. It's good to see Hot Shots will continue on the PS3, it's been a fun series, Tiger Woods golf is pretty sweet too.


There's no way the last pic is a photo. It's definately CG of saome sort, either realtime or pre-rendered, most prbably the latter.

Can someone find a photo of multiple cherry blossom trees just to compare them? Something's off if that is a photo, but IMO it looks computer generated (maybe not in-game).

The difference in quailty between the two shots is very noticable, the first screen isn't even that impressive, look at all the jaggies on the mountains -_-

Err..no. Again, find pictures of cherry blossom trees so we can compare it. It looks more like CG than a photo. If anything, like a screen cap of the intro or something.

I just noticed behind the trees in the 2nd pic it appears there is a golf cart there.

I'd like to see the characters, and the game in motion before I can really make a judgement. If you want real-looking scenery, just go look at Alan Wake

Anyways, I haven't really played that much Hot Shots but it's definitely fun...not sure how I'd compare it to Mario Golf though. I'll keep an eye on it, but I wonder what's really the advantage of putting this game on PS3 other than prettier graphics? I'd love to see some great online features & stuff on this, and even things we haven't thought of... (EyeToy 2 compatability for your swings? hehehe)

EDIT: Oh yeah, and about that second pic...I don't care how good your eyes are or how long you've been looking at CG/photos, there's no way to tell if that's real or not just by that picture. Don't even try

I think they both don't hold any relavence to the PS3 Hot Shot Golf 5 visuals. The pics are being pulled from the HSG5 site. They are just background pics for the site, one for the recruitment area and the other is on the main page.

The lackluster looking one looks more like HSG3 or HSG Fore! (4). The Blossom Trees picture seems more like CGI to me...I would love it if HSG5 had trees like that though...

Meh... I won't be buying this game anyway. They can make it as realistic/unrealistic as they like. This certainly shouldn't be viewed as a benchmark game in terms of PS3 visuals. It's a cartoony golf game.

What is interesting is how strongly the internet reacts to ANY potential PS3 screenshots. Hint to Sony: it's about time to start the steady drip of screenshots/game info...

BTW, can someone explain to me why we can't get rid of jaggies once and for all? What's the deal... they made parts of Shadow of the Colossus brutal to watch (any white, flat floors and the long bridge). I understand PS2's hardware limitations, but aren't there software solutions to this now? I'll be disappointed if jaggies are even noticeable on finalized PS3 games (besides silly cartoony ones like this)...

Well, due to the fact that PS3 displays at up to 6 times the resolution of PS2, first of all the jaggies will be MUCH less noticable even with no anti-aliasing. It is pretty much guaranteed RSX will have some kind of AA, because of all the innovations NVIDIA has introduced in their previous GFX cards like super sampling AA. Chances are it will be even better at it than xbox 360 (which isn't saying much from what I hear).
