IGN tested out Sonys PSX recently but were unable to test it's gaming, recording or even watch a DVD on it, they like how fast and pretty its menu was........wow.

I know it is a multipurpose device, but its too bulky. And all the white is a bit too much...the white remote with pastel green buttons looks gay to me.

The PSX includes the PlayStation 2's Emotion Engine and Graphics Synthesizer chips and will allow you to play PS2 games. But this isn't just a games system. The PSX also comes with a TV tuner, DVD recording capability and a 120 gigabyte hard disk. On top of this are USB 2.0 and memory stick support and a built-in Ethernet adapter.
The built-in PS2 hardware will be used not just for games, but for the product's recording features.
A version with a 160-gigabyte HDD will sell for 79,800 yen ($719) and be able to record up to 204 hours of television, the company said. It will also sell a 250GB version for 99,800 yen ($899). There is no timetable for an overseas PSX launch, Sony said.
Only an absolute idiot would waste $900 on that.

It looks bigger than an Xbox.
It's beautiful. The price and bulk will crap on it though.
Beautiful? It's a white box with gray sides. For $900.00 it damn well should look it. It barely looks above an old 70's stereo receiver.Originally Posted by Ixion

. Nah, but you are right on: notwithstanding your opinion on the unit's looks, when you see that price tag it will be like a monkey just threw all his feces over that pretty white exterior.

I mean, with the right background, it would look nice. What did you want Viper? Another purple square?
Erm, PSX is kinda written upside down there, on the top...
it's prettier than the hidious ps2. i'm gonna buy it with my couch money
I think they're wireless.
so.. basically you pay $750 to record dvds..
I think the display is backwards.
typical sony, over charge for a out of line product, no one NEEDS this, but people will buy it sadly enough
They should at least make it platinum.

If they want to launch something like this sack of crap, shouldn't they have waited a bit so that it will play PS3 games? I mean, let's say you shell out the $900 for one of these piles of crap, just for Sony to turn around and launch PS3 afterward. Tada, presto! You are now playing on antiquated gaming hardware, playing an out-dated, expired gaming line-up. No new game can be now be played on your expensive hardware. How many people can afford to spend almost a thousand bucks for this thing?
As for the appearance, the first PSX (not to be confused with this more expensive identity thief) wasn't much to look at and PS2 is an eye-sore, and now we get the most plain white box ever marketed. And, for the love of God, why on Earth did those Sony lame-brains recycle "PSX" when they've used it already? Surely they could have tacked something to the end other than "X". There are a whole lot of other letters and numbers out there, and surely they could think of some word to glue to the end of "PlayStation" to justify whatever other acronym. Maybe they could call it "PSXXL". ("XXL" as in "extra, extra large".)
