Just got a PS2......

Yes, thats right, I have turned to the dark side after having mainly Nintendo consoles for many years now. So, I've got a PS2 with two controllers and with Tekken 5. Could someone please recommend me some good RPG's, good 2player adventure games, etc etc. Any help would be appreciated.

I've been playing Dragon Quest VIII as of late. It's not groundbreaking or all that exceptional, but it is a solid RPG with some elements dating all the way back to the original title which kinda takes me back to the olden days, and it comes with a playable Final Fantasy XII demo, so it's a good pick for RPG fans. I really liked Final Fantasy X, as well, and if you like MMORPGs you can always pick up FFXI, but last I heard you can't play it on the newer, slimmer PS2 model because of a hard drive issue. Since the PS2 can play PSX (PS1) games, you can of course play all the Final Fantasy titles from FFVII up. The Lord of the Rings: The Third Age was pretty good, too, or at least it was when I played the Xbox version.

Hmm. stanDarsh already covered these. Admittedly, I'm not sure what else to recommend in the before-mentioned categories since the bulk of my console gaming has lately been on my Xbox. Since there was an "etc etc" there, though, I imagine that you're looking for recommendations in general, so an obvious pick would be Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, or any GTA for that matter. I enjoyed Burnout 3: Takedown and Burnout Revenge on the Xbox, and I imagine they're equally entertaining on the PS2.

There's really not that many good games, most people will say buy Shadow of the Colossus but I disagree. I suggest renting it since it's very short. Most RPG's have been mentioned and they are obviously buy titles if you really want to put time into them.

So basically I suggest buying MGS2: SoL and MGS3: SE since really that's all I would buy a PS2 now if I didn't already have one. Other then that theres not much else for the PS2 that hasn't been mentioned and in general for that matter.

With the PS2 you got access to a massive library. Games like Colony Wars: Vengeance, Dino Crisis 1 & 2, Suikoden 1 & 2, Silent Hill...

And Castlevania: Symphony of the Night are available to you. ^_^

Wow, I find it amazing that you find the only 2 games worth buying a PS2 for are MGS2 and MGS3 (Great choices BTW). But for some reason I was expecting you to suggest Kingdom Hearts, seeing as how your ava and sig both based on it. Oh well.. Maybe you'll do better next time.

for RPGs there is a thread for it in the PS2 section here. there is also a fighting games thread here.

as for other games, you have to narrow it down. tell us what you like, game examples (even from other platforms) genrea, creative direction, themes, etc.
together, PSOne and PS2 have more than 13000 titles! talk about a needle in a hey stack. even if we go only with platinum hits, the list will be too long.

so talk about what you like and what are you looking for. even the RPG genre has many variaties from classic themes to Western free roamers to traditional, etc.

I just got a PS2 also, mainly for MGS but I'll probably get God of War and some other games soon since it'll be my only console for a while cause I plan on selling my Xbox...

MGS2/3 and God of War are great choices. check out others like Devil May Cry 3 (the special edition is releasing soon) and Z.O.E 2.

give us more insight about what you prefer so we can be more helpful in suggestions.

I'm a big fan of #5, but others say #4 is superior. Overall though, you really can't go wrong with the series as a whole.

Zone of Enders is a good series, although ZOE2 is hard to find.

I reccomend Devil May Cry 1 and 3. Like zeep said the special edition for 3 is coming out later this month and will be 20$ at release. Onimusha 1-3 are also good games. I enjoyed them.

Katamari Damacy and We Love Katamari

Front Mission 5 is coming out soon if you like strategy RPGS

Guitar Hero is an excellent game.

Also if you like online games get Socom 2 and/or 3.

that is why we need him to tells us abit about what he likes. you may say GT4, but many don't like slow simulations no matter how good they are. these are the fans of Burnout.

also with Front Mission. one may like action mechs more than strategy mech games.

having said that, all the suggestions here are great. you just have to find what are the kinds you like to play.
