  1. 1up Preview of Unreal Tournament 2007 (PC) new pics

    Unreal Tournament 2007

Platform: PC Also On: Xbox 360

    Publisher: Midway Developer: Epic Games

ESRB Rating: N/A Genre: First-Person Shooter

    by Matt Leone 12/13/2005

While Epic has gotten a lot of attention recently from Gears of War and its graphics engine that seems to be powering every other next-gen game announced, it appears the company's long-standing Unreal Tournament franchise would prefer not to be ignored. So today we have a new set of screens from it showing off some of the prettiest explosions, light effects, and flying jeeps ever to see a game screen.
To recap, since news on the game has been rather quiet recently, UT 2007's main new features include a large list of vehicles (including a hoverboard), a new Conquest mode that looks to make objectives a key part of the multiplayer experience, and the first use of the Unreal Engine 3.0 graphics technology for the series. And really, it's this last part that has impressed fans more than anything -- one look at the game in video form (as was shown at E3 this year) and it's hard to go back to current generation titles.

Though Midway has yet to announce anything more than a PC version of the game, it's a common assumption that the game will make its way to both Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 as well. The game was even shown as one of the PS3 tech demos during Sony's E3 press conference this year, so the smart money says you'll be able to play it on a console soon.

Head over to our media page to check out the new screens and art, and look for UT 2007 to hit sometime in 2006. We will hopefully get more official news on the game at Midway's Gamers Day in late February or at this year's E3 in May.

  2. This game is a must buy for me...

    Great find BTW (+rep)
I guess it's pretty much confirmed this is also coming to the 360.

    wow
if my PC could run that....i doubt and AMD 2600+ and a radeon 9600 could run it though. I highly doubt it.

  4. So that first one is from the PC version, PSM use that in their Unreal PS3 feature.

The forum won't let me post the scans though.

Yeah, the characters have some great detail on them, the character in the e3 demo looks very good in PSM.

I got the PSM with the UnReal footage in it, as seen above. It is REAL TIME GAME PLAY. They actually played it at 720p. It blows my mind. And proves to me in my mind that KillZone is also possible. Microsoft is gonna crap when the PS3 hits the market. UnReal 2007 is a must buy. Frag you online guys!!!!!!

  14. Isn't it the same engine as GOW? Does Unreal require more power than GOW? Will pc have higher resolution? I wonder HOW much better the ps3 version will be.

  15. man am i the only one who dislikes the graphic style of this game? GOW, UT2K7 ?

im not just into this UT3.0 engine, all looks like plastic toy with flashy lightnings.

Those pics look nice man. I can see the difference in the PS3 version and the others (or its just my imagination lol). Its good to see the game look just as good as the demo at E3. Because sometimes you'll see a game look a lot simpler when you see the actual version. Look at Madden. Remember those renders that came out a several months back that they said the game will look like?

I know how you feel Crum con. I don't really like the graphical style of GOW but I don't think Unreal looks as quite as plastic. I can deal with this.

it isn't the engine's fault. it is an 'art direction'. they wanted those effects.

No its the engines fault, seriously. even games made with the UE3 still look like that, it seems to suffer from that shiny, waxy, metal, rubber, look! Its not subtle at all..if it were more subtle it might look less like CGI and more realistic( MSG2/MGS3/MGS4 looks more realistic for that very reason IMO). Its so damn annoying to see the images over and over again. I have yet to see a game made with UE3 that didnt suffer from its weak limited surfacing ability.

I never liked the UE3 engine, and those new pics still look like the same old, same old. However I like their modding tools.

thumbs down for me(and no one even Mark Rein is going to change my mind about this game/engine)!

    ^ what about endless saga?

Im quite sure it uses the UE3 engine and it doesnt have the glossyness to it.

  20. Yeah the engine makes me think of Small Soldiers (movie), it fits for Unreal but for GOW it just looks "emerican" buff ppl blowing shiz up and "squashing bugs." The engine supports other styles right?... if not then that sucks... It's too dark and moody for a lot of game styles but the lighting does look beautiful.
