Some new info!
In our short time with the game, it's very clear: Mario Kart DS is awesome. Awesome. The classic old-school karting action works extraordinarily well on the Nintendo DS platform.
How on-line races are decided:The game, classic Mario Kart action, runs at an incredibly smooth 60 frames per second rate, and gets pretty fast and intense especially in the game's unlockable 150 CC mode.
The Internet play is limited to simple four player racing matches, and players "vote" on which tracks to race on during the connection; the winning selection (the highest number of votes) will be the track everyone races on. The computer will choose the track from the voted list if there's a tie
What about Lag??
the article:The internet connection was admittedly a bit temperamental, with some lag issues and situations where players were randomly dropped from the action. But since the room was filled with dozens of players partaking in the Wi-Fi play, the lag and connection drops could have been attributed to the jammed wireless traffic in the area.

Sure hope the potential lag isn't anything to worry about when the game's released.
Until I saw the video presentation, I was still under the mindset that this game would be just another cashgrab.
But now.... wow, Nintendo really wants to make a good Mario Kart game.
I think it's the 14th...but since that's on a monday, I going to guess 15th the latest, for the US release.

NO THE S.U.C.K TEAM SUCKS.
Thank you. Anyhow, not worried about the lag, it shouldn't be a problem, at first there may be some lag, but Nintendo will work out the kinks in the online service.

What I love about what I saw on that hands on movie is that he said (and we saw) that the team has done an amazing job of incorporating heaps and heaps of things from the older Mario series into this game.
That Battleship level was awsome. Those levels from Mario Bros. 3 were the shit. Cant wait to play that one. However, the Delfino Square seemed a little bland with less water/palm trees/tropical island stuff and more grey buildings. I guess itll be better when we play through the actual thing. And the 3d SNES levels are awsome aswell.
Australians get it on the 17th btw.
I've taken a couple of anime dvds off of my list for this month to buy Mario Kart DS.
Not meaning to sound ignornat, but where did you get all that mario bros 3 Dellfino plaza, etc. crapOriginally Posted by thecube_128

^ Perhaps from watching the videos there.
Anyways, I hope the lag thing isn't a serious problem. Other than that, i can't wait for online. I'll probably be getting the game on the 15th, since Sonic Rush and VJ: Double Trouble are both coming out on the 15th, so I can get those two games along with mario Kart Ds and American Sk8tland in the sae day. Man, my ass will be busy gaming.
I am embarrassed to say that I thought MKDS would really be fairly low on content. Wrong.
I had to watch that 25-minute video twice to really take it all in. I think I'll be getting two copies on street date, if I can find them.

Boss battles? Bots in Battle Mode? Alternate cars? Blowing up balloons through the microphone? Christ.
Mario Kart DS just became infinitely better after I watched that demonstration. In fact, allow me to translate that through MK DS's decal creator:
Blowing up balloons through the microphone? I didn't know that...
yeah, the text article doesn't have nearly all the info. you have to watch the 25-minute video.
Big thanks to Ihsiin for the sig!
