    UMD burning......myth or reality

The only thing is that the hole in the middle is much smaller and the biggest problem is that current non-sony mastering machines cannot read the disc due to "BURST-CUTTING" done on the UMD.

Well, its being tested, how lonmg until someone "cracks the code"...?

  2. Who cares about UMD burning, there are so many programs out there to convert to MP4 and put it on the Memory stick.

yes you are right there are many programs out there, and FYI, lots of people care(its okay that you don't)

I'd prefer carrying just UMD's everywhere; as opposed to UMD's and MS's
Sroage Space and Price are my two concerns, Memory Sticks are only 1GB(2GB is on the way), but I would like to see 5GB or better. Then I would lean more towards MS than UMD(becasue it is only 1.8GB)

  4. People have 'cracked the code'...

I'm pretty sure they have, they are just having problems burning it I think. Sort of like a PS2...you need to modify its inards! :x

I have seen no evidence of this anywhere. As far as most devs are concerned memory stick will be the only viable means of executing code on the psp and even then it is encrypted, most likely with AES.

yeah but memory sticks cost about 120 bucks for a gig when UMD's cost about 20 for 1.8 gigs

  9. I think that for the most part, If the apps are small....the MS is the way to go...definitely faster than running off of the UMD as far as load times go.

  10. Even if we could burn UMDs we would need 1) blank UMDs and 2) the necessary encryption software so the PSP would recognize the disc.

  11. No No No...Christ....all we need is too be able to read the umd ... we dont need umd to burn anything...plus the 2Gig's pro duo are coming..now I know what your thinking the cost...but at least you can erase and put new data on there..now having said that what we need is....somehow read the UMD on our desktops....kind of like a storage device visible on your desktop...like the pro duo shows up when you connect your psp to your computer...extract the data off the umd an run a executable file like the EBOOT.PBP ...that we can edit with hexeditor.... I seen 1 GiG Pro duo for under $70...and NO im not giving you the link...search around.

  12. Theoretically 'all is needed' is some piece of software that runs both on PC and PSP that streams the data from the UMD to PC via USB cable.

  17. The machines that create the UMDs are available only to Sony. Not even the developmers have access to those machines. When they have their game ready they send it over to Sony and they put it on UMD. So there is little chance that that kind of stuff is going out and I think that is what sony has in mind as well by doing things that way.
