Thread: Gameshark Media Player Review

  1. Gameshark Media Player Review

I'm gonna keep this short and simple because I don't need much space for this review.

Simply stated: Gameshark Media Player fuggin rocks. Definitely worth the $20 USD I payed for a brand new copy at my local Gamestop.

Easy to set up, fast menus, no boot cd's required, awesome quality and it plays a handful of formats including MP3, MPEG4, DivX, and XviD. It doesn't play WMV or WMA, but then again Microcrap sucks anyways (anyone else hear about Microsoft's DRM protected WMV files are being used to load spyware and viruses onto people's computers?). If you have any type of media file you want to play over your home network (mp3 DJing for parties, downloaded Arrested Development episodes, .avi movies, etc) you're gonna love this player.

The software isn't perfect tho. While I was watching David Cross's Let America Laugh the player froze and I had to reboot my PS2. It also requires 700kb of free space on your PS2 memory card, which seems a bit much.

Even with its shortcomings, the Gameshark Media Player is a downright steal at $20.

Hehehe... Just when I was complaining that my computer can't play DivX media, a solution just seemed to have popped up. On the down side, this would mean that I need to get a new Mem Card (It's got like ~300KB of memory left ). Ah well, it sounds like a good deal overall.

  3. I am sorry to say you that I didn’t understand anything.
    My questions are as follows,
1] What is a special function of gameshark media player dvd?
2] To use all gameshark dvd codes first you must have to boot the game dvd with gameshark code which is very annoying. So tell me how can I use this new version of gameshark to use the gamecodes.
3] Can I skip booting part [to load gamecodes/cheats] with the help of this new DVD.
4] If answer of above question is yes, then tell me the steps to do?
    Thank you.

    1) Its a CD and not a DVD. It plays movies, shows, and MP3s off of your computer hard drive, thru your home network, into your PS2 and onto your TV. Its extremely useful in general, but the really nice thing about this is that if you have a home theater setup for your PS2, your computer's MP3s and movies can play off this same theater/.
    2) There are no gameshark codes with the Gameshark media player I purchased. Its just a media player.
    3) This program boots straight into the media player. It requires no mod chips and no boot discs. There are no cheatcodes with the version I purchased.
    4) See answers #3 and #4.

  6. The Action Replay Max EVO is better, You can use this with out even having a computer to stream from. They give you a storage device that uses the USB slot on your PS2, it plays mpeg, AVI, mp3 along with other formats, and they even give you software, so that you can burn your media files onto a cd and play them straight from your PS2 as opposed to streaming them from a computer.

If you want check it out go here:

This actually looks pretty nice, and hopefully I'll be able to find a copy and review it here. I just a have a few observations.

This only seems like a better media player if you don't have network support for your PS2. If you do have network support, the Gameshark media player seems better. This is why:

To play movies with Gameshark MP (provided you already have a network installed):
    1) download/rip your media
    2) boot the gameshark cd
    3) play your media

This Action Replay MAX EVO Edition:
    1) download/rip your media
    2) convert/burn the media to a CD-R using Action Replay's Media Creator
    3) boot the Action Replay MAX EVO disc
    4) swap discs and play your media

Like I said, if you have a home network, Gameshark is easier and faster. But it requires you to use up your HD space to store the media. If you don't have a home network, Action Replay MAX EVO Edition seems nice, cause it also gives you a memory card compressor (note: you have to boot with the ARME CD to decompress the savegame before you can use it) and cheat codes. The USB drive they give you is only 16MB, so that isn't anything worthwhile but I read that they do support other brands of USB flash drives.

What is the capcity for the memory key?

  9. The Action Replay USB Flashdrives are up to 64MB, but with their PS2 software you can use just about any USB Flash device that doesn't need any installed drivers. A good option would probably be the SanDisk flashdrives, that are available from 256MB to 1GB. You can check'em out at sandisk.com.

  10. i wonder if this would be possible in the future with the psp, to stream movies, music, and pictures through a wifi network.
