Thread: Hidden Gems

  1. Hidden Gems

I was just browsing through Amazon, and you can pick up a few old classic games for the PS2 now for very little money - so my question to you wonderful people is: are there any hidden gems out there that I may have missed, and should I part with some of my hard earned cash to pick any of them up?

    Thanks for any responses

I'll respond with the 4 games I always like to post in threads like this:

    Rez
    Frequency & Amplitude
    ICO

  3. pretty much all the prequels to all hte games that just came out are really cheap and on greatest hits.
    GT3, GTA3/VC, Jak1&2, R&C1&2, MGS2, and i guess the THPS series..thats all i can think of

Rez is EXTREMELY rare so if you find it you should snatch it up.

  5. gamingmonkey2004, those are high profile games and not considered hidden gems.

And yes, Rez is very rare and sells beyond the original price on eBay. Anyway, I would also recommend ICO (plz ignore the crappy box art. It has nothing to do with the actual game). Can't wait for Wanda and Colossus. I hope it'll be as good or even better than ICO.

ICO is a cult classic. Definitely one of the strangest feelings I had playing a game. It was VERY cool.

  7. Shinobi

I don't think people missed it entirely when it first came out, I just think they did not give it the chance it deserved.

I think people did, but it was too hard for casual gamers.

I bought Rez when it was released. Funny seeing people trying to get hold of it now. That's what you get for ignoring it in the first place, hahaha!

We're on about great games that have slipped under the radar so to speak.

  12. i didnt think ICO slipped under the radar...i thought it was a high profile game. owell what aobut dark cloud that was like a launch title in the US and it was decent to say the least...well until more games come out of course

I suppose it was, it's just that the general public didn't really pick up on it.

  14. i didnt like ICO because it was difficult...i guess it was my inadiquite gaming skills. It was hard killing stuff with a stick..or atleast figuring out what to do. like once you saved the girl and the shadow thing in the ground...couldnt get past it. I cant remeber it to much but i remeber it pissed me off cause i did it like 20 times and i couldnt figure out what to do

  15. I've got Ico and I thought it was brilliantly designed, but I've never had the chance to play Rez - can get it "Like new" from Amazon for £25, so that may be next on my list.

Frequency and Amplitude have never really appealed to me - I don't know, I'll probably check them out - but I have played demos and didn't really think much of the games. - Thanks for the suggestions tho Matt

Gamingmonkey - I've actually got all of the games you listed apart from THPS Maybe it's just time to dust off some of the classics that I've already got.

I picked up Project Eden last Friday, I'm just waiting for it to be delivered - has got some good reviews so I'll see how it plays.

Here's a nice forgotten title - the original Headhunter for the PS2. While Acclaim did a terrible port job, the game itself is fun and different. At $7.99 USD, GameStop's current price, it's worth the money. The graphics are acceptable (It was one of the last Dreamcast games released on the dying console.), the story's got a nice B-Movie feel, and the soundtrack is great. (Definitely underappreciated.) It was forgotten for a number of reasons, though. First, it was a Dreamcast title that was only released in the UK. Second, Acclaim did little to let the public know of the PS2 port's existence. I highly recommend it if you can get a good deal on it.

By the way, has anyone played Kya: Dark Lineage?

EDIT: I forgot probably the most overlooked PS2 game ever - Klonoa 2: Lunatea's Veil. This is one of Namco's greatest first-generation titles - Great gameplay and voice overs and an interesting, solid graphics engine. If you did not play Klonoa 1 or 2, you should pick them up immediately!

Leon and Ada return at the "end of 2005."

    I own games!
