I was thinking about IBM and Sony's touting of the PS3's Cell archatecture. Now the PS3 is set to be heavly connected to the other PS3 and will be able to draw processing power from them..Hence the claim that it will be 100time more powerful than a Penitum 4 at 2.53 Ghz. An intersting commecnt was written by a PC fourmer from another site. See below.
""""Yep, I think IBM (or some big talker) said 'Cell' would be 100x as fast as P4 2.5GHz. But, that doesn't mean the chip in PS3 will be that powerful. Consider these:
1) It may be a number based on multiple 'Cell' chips in a grid/cluster.
2) It may be a future 'Cell' chip, and not necessarily one available when PS3 comes out.
I could say that P4 2.5GHz is 10x as fast as P4 2.5GHz. How is that? Well, put 10 machines together in a cluster versus a single machine. I didn't say a single P4 2.5GHz is 10x as fast as a single P4 2.5GHz."""""""
We accepted the products of Science, but rejected its methods.
exactly... theres no way it will be 100x faster then a p4 2.5ghz.
thats 3 million dollar computing in a 300 dollar console in 2 years.
not happening.. now if youll excuse me im enjoying my toy story graphics on my ps2.
could you imigine trying to program on a system like that?
May Peace Be With You
Yeah I'd say and hey Shags welcome to Nnow and I hope you stay and post awhile.
100 times faster?... i dunno seems kinda pointless... as long as the load times are as fast as gamecube is now i dont mind and i dont need 6000 fps... if they just use the latest graphics chip id look just fine... they goin too far and its probably going to turn out like the XBOX... so expensive to manufacture that it actually costs more to make then it sells for...
