Import a PSP from preorder site or from Japanese local area?

A friend and I was planning to get a PSP when my friend goes to Japan for winter vacation so he can send one over from there. But so far we missed Sony's PPO session and made no preorders whatsoever. Previously we were considering to get one from a local shop, but atleast from what I read on the internet, it wont be as easy as getting a PS2 back in 1999 (not that it was easy at all..).

Can you guys give me any suggestions on from where I should get mine?

I have a couple of suggestions, but it's not guaranteed to work or anything.

First, you might try to pre-order PSP from major Japanese electronic stores to have it shipped to your friend's adress, but they might have sold out.

Another thing you could do is start lining up at a store that sells PSP starting the early morning of Dec. 12. A disadvantage of this is, though, is that your friend might lose time lining up.

And then, of course, you could order from importers like Liksang at the comfort of your house.

You should have your friend call a local shop and see if he can get them to hold them for him. Some of the major online electronic stores (Yodobashi and BIC Camera) had pre orders but have closed them, they might have more in the future so keep your eyes open for those. I would think any of the major importers (like LikSang and Play Asia) must have a huge backlog of orders compared to their allotment of PSPs.

Try one of the smaller stores eg: Yamada denki, tsutaya, Nomura denki or ninomiya. If you pre-order with Yamada or Ninomiya, you will get one...Ive never heard of a pre-order that has not been delievered. That would put shame on the store !! If you can pre-order one unit - then you will get it on the 12/12

My friend is staying in Japan for thanksgiving and in the meantime he will try to secure a psp there. We are still betting on our chances on smaller retailers as we reckon they will be 'untouched' from foreign importers and from atleast what my friend says, there were not much shortages when the ps2 came out there. He's going to Kobe btw.
