Thread: New PS3 logo?

  1. Question New PS3 logo?

June 12, 2003 - At a recent RAMBUS/ELPIDA conference yesterday, Sony Computer Entertainment and memory company Elpida apparently revealed a first look at what appears to be the new PlayStation 3 logo.

As Sony and its associates grind closer to completing the costly, sophisticated and complex CELL technology, which is believed to be at the heart of the PlayStation 3, new partners and new developments have popped up along the way. Elpida, a young new company that's the joint cooperative effort of giants Hitachi and NEC, will work with Sony by providing RAM bus technology for the new console.

The logo itself is quite...curvy, kinda eggy, and very much the opposite of the PlayStation 2's hard-edged approach. Does this mean the PS3 also will look far different in shape and design than the PS2? If the logo is any indication of the new system, than we suspect so.

Emphasizing networking with circular designs and connectivity with abstract unclosed curvilinear lines, the PS3 logo looks more like an innovative typeface from the late 1970s than anything else.

I don't understand why they are analizing the title like that, when all that matters is the game play.
If I knew what being cool was, would I be here?

Yeah, I've always wondered why they even had that name and the first time I heard it when I didn't know it was a console, I thought it was a playground or something. Wierd, I know.

Sony is using a marketing tactic called "name-recognition". People expect quality (most of the time) from the name SONY PLAYSTATION. That's like saying that name "Thunder Bird" is getting old, and that Ford should change their product line every year so their customers don't get "bored".
