Hi all, i am making this thread cause i think that it would be interesting how other people see the next generations of graphical outcomes.
All i want from you people is to send a picture of a game currently running on todays PC's and another of a greater quality (tommorows). Remember that this sort of relates to PS3 but dosnt really show great accuracy.
Ill start with some examples which i found on another thread thanks to "rev>thanu"
1)
2)
3)
Is it just me or is it easy to forget just how good graphics can get :O
If you got any pic comparasons, plz post 'em H3r3!!!
If you just want to reply without adding a picture, at least add lots of smiley faces![]()
By the way, there is an aditional POLL if you wish to be involved.
going off the way the cars look in gt3 and in gt4 which also has the photo mode, I think the ps3 will be able to pull off graphics looking like the car you just posted. So, five years.
Maybe in the last gen of ps3 we can get this kind of graphical performance in fighting games:
I don't think we'll see cars like this anytime soon though:
![]()
No need to keep that 30,40,50 years in the option.
none of the pics that were posted look real to me they look really good high poly and all, but not real
real to me would be like that ps9 commercial the old one,
where it seems like real life but ur playing a game
i think once that happens games will takeover the world
why live a shitty misrable life when you could have this real world in a game and do whatever u want and be whoever.. i mean if u wanna be a rich person with everyhting u ever wanted just go in the game and do it itll look feel smell real so whats the difference
maybe get some netplay and get all ur frineds in the game
the only reason youd need to come out of the game world would be to eat shit sleep and work to pay for the electricity bill to power the console
heh seriosuly though id give it to about ps4/5 to get real lookin grpahis in a console
Good Bye
I don't particularly see it happening at all. The closer and closer things get to reality, the more you're going to be able to nitpick and say "that's fake." And because of the differences in goals between movie CG and game graphics, there's always going to be a gap. I recall a test where people compared top-quality CG to photographs, and on average, 120,000 people got 95% right (worst was actually an 85%)... not only that, but every error was one where a photograph was thought to be CG. Not one person ever mistook CG for photos.
In all fairness, still images have a much higher "threshold of realism" than animation. But objects like cars are far easier to pull off than a human being or the clothes he/she wears. Same thing with those animal pics. What do you notice about the tiger image that looks so fake? And even aside from the tiger itself, there's the fact that the snow shows no translucency. Or the fact that the depth-of-field effect that blurs the nearby post doesn't seem to have any effect on the distant pillars. And even though it should be easy to fake something like a pic of the car, you can nitpick about that, too. Like why is it that a car in these closed-off completely beige surroundings can reflect a blue sky, sidewalk, and street lamps?
Cell phones have changed mankind. Finally, men have something they can flip out and argue "mine is smaller than yours."
I couldn't really tell if the car was cg or a photograph. I'd have to have guessed. But the floor kinda shows it.
ild say 10years time and we will have near realistic graphics, at the momment the most impressive progression ive seen is the unreal3 engine.

im looking forward to E3 next year when hopfully sony nintendo and microsoft will show what they can produce graphicaly
I kinda agree with you,but have you ever stop to wonder how Sony plans on making the workstation improve the visuals of a game?I have no idea how this thing will work except for movies and games having the same development environment.Originally Posted by cpiasminc
i bet sony will show off something like the final fantasy spirits within realtime clip for the GScube.anyways here are more pics of how much graphics can improve.
IS FUNNY HOW THE ACTUAL 3D REAL TIME MODEL DOESN'T LOOK THAT GRAPHICALLY BEHIND AS THE CG MODEL
Imagine the next generation RE of games. The mansions looking like this.
first off NICE! i'm just waiting for the in game play to look like that.i can see what your saying and i can agree with that most people will start picking at the little things as they do now it will be the same........Originally Posted by cpiasminc

If we are talking real as in looking like real lfe i would say around 25 years.
Actually,Sundevil, some CGI does look real;it depends on what you're looking at.
Yeah, just look at my bmw. it's amazing.
Quest: post pictures of the most realistic CG you can find, this should be very interesting. Please?
Good Bye
Sundevil, although it is for the PSP,I have something that may intrigue you:
Sony apparently will support a graphics model based on surfaces, rather than polygons. Okabe displayed an illustration of a cartoon character that looked more realistic than a polygon-based model, which he said contained the same amount of data. The graphics block will also be capable of vertex blending, a morphing technology that can interpolate changes made between objects.

Isn't this what people have been complaining about;next gen consoles not having enough power to process a certain number of polys to make impressive looking visuals to those of higher modules? What if Sony is using something similiar in the PS3's hardware or even better.I'm not saying it's true, but wouldn't it also be possible for the PS3 to pull off more complex visuals as well?
absolutely, with the $$ sony's got and need for $peed, i think they will take the $ rather than let someone else start first.
OKELY DOKELY

Thats why i made this thread. I would give you a link to a thread in this forum which has 150 very realistic CGI (which i put in) but unfortunately the thread is gone. I suggest you look in the PS3 Graphics Discussion Thread every now and then.
That's so true but there is one thing though. When non interactive CG comes to the point where no there is no more improvement to add. This is when interactive CG will catch up. then CGi will have to resort to other methods in order to improve and catch the eye of the gamer and viewer.I think I may have been misread. See, CG and interractive graphics from one particular era will never be on par with eachother. In twenty years interractive 3D may be as detailed as any CGI from today, but then what will the CG look like at the same time.
Well i can tell you one thing. once there is a videogame console out there that can do real time Raytraycing then the rest is just improvement in techniques. then adding more polygons everything else will come swiftly.
oh and Sundevil i really don't know what you mean that at some point you realize that CGI looks fake. i would say that for movies like matrix, etc. but SMIGOL(GOLLUM) from Lord Of the Rings. That's a hard one to tell the difference from real life and computer generated. The only reason you can tell it's fake it' because of his big blue eyes. then Gollum looks, moves, and just acts like a real life creature.
