Thread: Best shooting game out right now?

  1. Best shooting game out right now?

I am going to purchase a shooting game like socom 1 or 2. But right now dere's alot out right now like Quake 3, Time Splitters, Unreal Tourment, Medal Of Honour Rising Sun. I'am really looking for a game with the best multiplayer where you can play the computer and ur friends and also play online

I'm not so sure of putting FPS and 3rdPS in the same "shooting category but i would have to say Socom because of the online play on the Ps2.
If Timesplitters2 where to be re-released with an online mode i would have second toughts.
The aim of an argument or discussion should not be victory, but progress

  3. Well I think socom is awesome. And I like unreal. Unreal is the best fps and socom is the best 3rdps.

I haven't been able to play either of the SOCOM games, so I would have to go with TimeSplitters 2. Unreal Tournament and Quake III are OK, but not brilliant.

  5. If you can find a copy of the PS2 version of half-life get that.

Personally I prefered the PC version of Half-Life to the PS2 version. The period of time between the releases was a very long time, so you would've though that they could've done something with it rather than just adding a below average multiplayer and a little co-op mode.

  7. socom 2 widoud a doubt best game ever(online multiplayer that is)

Luckily, we're getting bombarded with Time Splitters 3.... Yup, you guessed it, LOADS of features:
First, you can have up to 16 players online
Second, You can have... yup, you guessed it: VEHICLES!! YES!!!
Third, More weapons, more gadgets, MORE FUN!

Well, there's more to it then that, but that's basically the kicker to get the game once it comes out... in March next year (They delayed the release date from Jan to March... )

  9. Socom 1 was the best FPS the ps2 had to offer until it became full of cheats and sony didnt maintain the servers very well so they became unplayable on.

FPS well theres killzone, timesplitters 2 online is ok if u get a good host but with Timesplitters 3 been online properly that could be a winner. We have halo2 out soon and theres CS the undesputed king of FPS

If we were on about PC FPS games, then we could be here all day:

    Call of Duty
    Far Cry
    CounterStrike

Just a few examples of great PC FPOS games. The list goes on though.

As for consoles, there aren't really a huge number of titles that you can say are really good. Soon enough we'll have Killzone, Halo 2 and TimeSplitters 3, so it should be a good time for console FPS players.

And don't forgot, the Not-a-PC-to-Console-Port FarCry: Innocence!!
Can't wait to see how it plays on the console .

Hahaha, so much for picking the best (one) FPS game. Seriously, though, that question's a bit too general - Some FPS's have a stronger single player campaign while others are primarily made for multiplayer matches. In addition, since this is in the "PS2 Games" section, we have to narrow the list to, well, PS2 titles. Since I haven't played Killzone yet, I can't make judgements on its game modes. However, based on my own experiences, I'd say TimeSplitters 2 offers the best of both worlds; TimeSplitters 2 offers a solid Single Player experience in addition to a number of different multiplayer modes.

Leon and Ada return at the "end of 2005."

    I own games!

    8)

    couldnt be more right.

and also, just thought i'd mention; HALF LIFE 2 > halo 2
    Exactly! 8)

I hate it when Xbox fanboys try and tarnish the reputation and superiority of PC first-person shooters by putting Halo 2 up on a pedistel of greatness that it doesn't deserve. Halo is a fantastic game, but if you think it is the best FPS around then you are seriously limited in the games that you play. PC FPS games have surpassed what is present in Halo years ago.

Dual Wielding: Action Quake 2 (MOD)

    Cinematic experience: Half-life 1

Vehicles: Weren't really done right until Halo, and I respect the game for that.

    AI: Highly debatable

What the game did was that it was one of the first FPS games to finally role ALL aspects into a nicely done package, but PC games quickly evolved on this quality.

I would rather that people remeber Halo as evolutionary rather than revolutionary. It doesn't do anything to make it a true halmark, but it pointed the genre in the right direction.

Halo 2 though, I do not think that it should be regarded as better than it predecessor because it still suffers from the same flaws that plagued the first title (reptitive level design, bland textures, etc) and the single-player campaigne is not as good as its predecessor either. Multiplayer has only received the major upgrade of online play.

I just can't stop using the Gravity Gun!!! lol

One thing Halo did really well was close quarters combat. Thumping fools with the butt of a gun is very kool, but that does not make it the best FPS ever. Which is what alot of X-Box fanboys I know say all the time. Halo is over rated, period. Granted, it is a good game. Halo 2 is over rated, though it to is a good game. 10 hours of gameplay? Or less. That sucks. Multiplayer is it's saving grace, and UnReal 2004 kicks it's ass on the multiplayer. CS:Source kicks it's ass on multiplayer. But I guess Halo2 is good for people who do not have a powerfull enough PC to run those other games.

What are you talking about?! ANY FPS with close quater combat deserve to be considered the best .
I'm sure you all know that I have a fetish for CQC by now... :P
