PSP Online Discussion Thread Part 1

Any idea of what sort of online capabilities the PSP will have? How will it connect to a network? Is there any chance that network gaming with the PSP will be compatable with PlayStation 2 and maybe even PlayStation 3?

    PSP specs:

    Input/Output

    USB 2.0
    Memory Stick
    Extension Port (Reserved)
    Stereo Head phone Out
    Digital Keypad
Triangle, Circle, X, Square, L1, R1, Start, Select
    One analog joystick

    Communication

Wireless LAN(802.11) [Hotspots, Home Server, etc.]
    IrDA [PSP, Mobile Phone, etc.]
USB 2.0 [PSP, PS2, PC, etc.]

If any of this has been announced before then I'm sorry. Looking at the forum, there isn't a topic for PSP Online, so I thought I'd make one anway for discussion.

Nothing has been announced yet, so it is hard to tell. But with 802.11, the possibilities are there from some great connectivity. It just depends how they decide to use it.

I'm so looking forward to playing Pro Evolution Soccer/Winning Eleven on the bus against my mate who's in his house. Don't mess this up Sony!

What multiplayer games do you think need to be ported to PSP with online play?

How about SOCOM, I'd love to see the old people faces on the bus while I'm playing that online. Round the back, MOVE YOU F*CKING MUPPETS!!!!!!

  4. do you think they might have conterstrike or other half-life games to play online :?:

Doesn't seem likely. Most PSP games will be arcade games.

    What is Counterstrike anyway?

It's a mod of the original Half-Life game. Terrorists Vs. Counter-Terrorists. It was just released recently on the Xbox, and CounterStrike: Condition Zero, which has been due for release for a while now, will be released on the PC.

If you've got ADSL I'd suggest downloading it and giving it a go.

I've noticed that USB (not shown on concept model) is among the specs. How will this be used? Maybe apart from downloading video and audio from a PC it could be used to connect to a PS2. What would a connection with PS2 give us?

Probably the same as what the GC/GBA connection can bring us, plus more.
The aim of an argument or discussion should not be victory, but progress

a lot of people have said things about the usb/L&R buttons/other stuff that wasn't on the concept modle, but you couldn't see the top of it. (nick, didn't mean to single you out) that stuff could be on the top, and some lazy modler didn't feel like making them so they just didn't have a top view.

btw, i meant to post this earlier on another thread, but never got around to it.

Looking at the concept model I doubt it'll be like that anyway. Could you imagine how uncomfortable it would be to hold?

  15. It is all right there in you first text
IrDA [PSP, Mobile Phone, etc.] You can link then by Ir (Infrared)... but this will not be for high speed games (maybe chess )
USB 2.0 [PSP, PS2, PC, etc.] or by USB-Cable...
    Where is the question?

  16. hopefully more places will become "hotspots" so the psp will be even more mobal.

  17. IrDa is as fast as most cable modems... but then again, short range.
But that is good as well... for "secure" IM's to your friend in class,ect.... like passing a note.. you can't read it unless you are verry close.

  18. well as long as people dont find out how to hack into your psp's through its online capabilities.

What would be the point? To steal your save game files?
That's why PS2 online and Xbox online have such little trouble.. what's there to get? Why would someone even try.. except for your worst enemy who has hacking skills.
(ps: don't piss off a nerd, it can bite back..LOL)

  20. good point but oh forget about it. i wonder if you could transmit mp3s using the online thingy?
