I really do hate one more thing other than waiting for about eight months for the English version, and that's why in the world does the hero always looks like a girl? I mean look at Van (ff12 main hero), he looks prettier than Ashie (the main heroine)

Square Enix held a press conference in Japan today introducing Final Fantasy XII to the world. Directed and produced by Yasumi Matsuno, Final Fantasy XII shares some elements with Final Fantasy Tactics Advance. The Judge, for example, who set and enforced the fighting rules in FF Tactics Advance, will appear as a prominent character in the game (note also that the judge is part of the FF XII logo). Other elements in common with Tactics are the races, with Bangaas (lizard men), Humes (humans) Vieras, and Moogles appearing in the game. Square Enix plans to release the game in Japan in the summer of 2004.

    The Background Story

The Judge figure from Final Fantasy Tactics Advance seems to have gotten more menacing.
The Alkaydia empire, who controls the continent of Valendia, has been waging war for many long years against the Rosaria empire, who controls the continent of Odaria. Dalmaska, a small kingdom between the two continents of Valendia and Odaria is caught between the two empires’ conflicts due to its strategic location. The Alkaydia empire invades Dalmaska, taking over the kingdom and killing the king. Ashe, the 19-year-old daughter who is heir to the throne, vows revenge and joins the resistance to oppose the empire’s rule. Her fight seems futile, as she sees countless comrades fall before the empire. It is at this time that she meets Vaan, a cheerful boy living in downtown Dalmaska, who together will greatly change the history of the world of Ivalice. The Characters
Judging from the teaser and screenshots that Square Enix showed, there are at least four playable characters in the game. Ashe, 19 years old, is the royal successor to the kingdom of Dalmaska. After the death of her father, she goes into hiding to join the resistance and fight the Alkaydia Empire. Vaan is a 17-year-old orphan whose parents were killed in the conflict against the empire. Described as being optimistic and one who refuses to be bound by race or politics, he dreams of becoming an air pirate. The identities of two other playable characters, one male and one female, are still unknown.

As stated earlier, the Judge is a key character in the game, perhaps serving as a sort of antagonist. An armored knight with a Darth Vader-like imposing stature, the Judge takes upon the role of both juror and law enforcer. A Bangaa bounty hunter character also appears who also seems to play a notable role in the game.

    The Battle System

Ashe and Vaan, off to go change the world.
Square Enix has revealed almost nothing of the battle system, though they have stated that they purposely took battle screenshots that resemble battle screens of other Final Fantasy games, so it could be a different system. The introductory blurb in the prologue section of the official website says that the warrior “transfers his trained skills onto a stone,” so it could perhaps mean that the game will have you equip stones to master skills similar to Final Fantasy VII.

    Other Features
The game features a fully 3D world that players enables players to freely move about and manipulate the camera angle. As the artwork suggests, air ships and air battles will also play a large role in the game, as the four-minute trailer showed swarms of aircraft and dreadnought-sized battleships fighting.

I'm not such a FF-fan and i have played it for like 5 min (FF-X) and i stopped.
I had just finished Golden sun on the gba and tought it was the same only the gba is portable.

Ok, for the graphics but why buy a game for the graphics if i don't like playing it.

If someone could convert me into playing those games pplease help.
If i rent it will i enjoy it and give me some info on the game specs...

You can't really rent a Final Fantasy game, unless you were to play it absolutely non-stop.

Go out and buy Final Fantasy VII. Trust me.

You don't have to like FF games. You said you tried FFX, and if you don't like it, you don't like it. I just can't imagine anyone seeing the Aoran and Tidus cut scene and doesn't feel like playing it more.
Aoran: "this is your story....this is where it begins"
    aaah the nostalgia

  14. BUY FINAL FANTASY 7!!! It will get you hooked on all RPG's, it is simply amazing to this day.

Basically you take all types of emotions, Compassion, Love, Honor, Anger, Hate, Romance, mixed them up in a blender, throw in some kick-ass graphics, amazing mini-games and sidequests plus over 60 hours of gameplay and voila FF7. (Well almost all FF but this one is the best).

This is my story, I had never even played a RPG before in my life, but when I heard about this game from my friend I rented it after work the second day it came out.

I got home, popped it in, i played the first five minutes which starts as a full motion CG Cinema and blends right into the gameplay, then another CG cinema all of which an amazing score is playing in the background. At the first save point, I saved my game, quit, then went to walmart and bought it just so I could own the game right then and there!

Ever since I have loved RPG's, even though most don't compare to FF7. I would and do recommend this game to eveyone.

  15. I was blown away the same as you the first time I played ff7. Simply an amazing game. Today the graphics look dated ofcoursde, but at the time it was like they used every trick the ps1 was capable of, and used them it the most artfull way. And when I discovered the "arcade town" whatever it was named (think las vegas if you never played it) wew-hew! Chocobo races, video games based on the mini games, for a while there it seemed like the game world went on forever.

Yeah but it is more fun if you could play it with enhanced graphics and the fact that it would be portable is enough reason for me to remake it but i'm not the boss of Square am i.
Anyhow i hope they will decide they are going to bring it out on the PSP and if they're not it looks like i'm gonna have to buy it on the Ps1.

There is no doubt that FF7 was great. However, we need to keep in mind its age. People new to the RPG genre need to try out the CURRENTLY best game the market has to offer, which, in my opinion, would be FFX. Think about it. It's like taking someone who wants to fly a jet fighter. You don't tell him to try out the Right Brothers ferst ever plane, you give him a Meg, or the SU37- the latest, the fastest..the works! Then, if he becomes a fly fan, he might want to try out the classics just for the fun of it.
If anyone tries to judge the RPG genre by playing FF7, it wouldn't be fair. The entire game is poor by today's standards. I know, you would say the story is great, but I'll tell you that they wont give the story a chance to even begin. So, I think that RPG fans who missed out on the legend of FF7 might want to check it out. But for new comers, they might want to leave it for the time being until they get an idea of the current best games first.
Just imagine someone tells you this: " you love racers? you have got to try out Gran Turismo 1 ( or Ridge Racer 1, Need for Speed 1, etc)!
Common, you would want to try out GT4 and the likes.

I see your point, but you can't compare GT games with FF games. RPG's bring on a totally different type of excitment and feeling to the mix then racing games. You pretty much get the same thing with GT games, same car brands, same car types ( with updated models), same tracks ( some new ones, mostly the same tracks though ). Final Fantasies give you new worlds every new final fantasy game ( except for FF-X-2), new characters, new plots, new fighting systems, new weapons, monsters..eta eta eta. My point is, real video game players won't be turned off by the lesser graphics if the story is amazing and the game play is smooth, which FF-VII is!! Don't be a video game snob and not want to play a game because it isn't the most up to date graphics. I think you get my point.
