Thread: Hype Killed the Cat

  1. Hype Killed the Cat

We all know Hype can go eithier way ... and for some games, too much hype ends up killing it.

What game have you played that was over-hyped but ended up not living up to it?

For me it would have to be Mario Kart: Double Dash. Man, everyone hyped this bad boy up. It was going to be so great ... but the lack of speed and no-so-great multiplayer battle maps really killed it. I was expecting so much more from it too

  2. Metroid Prime, Viewtiful Joe, and Soul Calibur.

  3. Soul Calibur? Hmm, I thought it was great, at least the Gamecube version lived up to it (all it took was Link).

  4. wtf...Metroid Prime lived up to all the hype!

I would have to say Eternal Darkness
i really didnt like the game other than the historical references and sanity effects.
THERE IS SOMETHING SERIOUSLY ADDICTIVE ABOUT THE WII

    Wind Waker.

Mario Sunshine...it was good...but not insanly great like it should have been and was supposed to be.

  7. #7
    Starfox Adventures

Everyone expected Zelda Lite; everyone received Crap Heavy.

  8. #8
Halo 2. (Move this to general gaming for more choices)
The sun shines on me no more.

  9. This was intended for Gamecube games only ... which is why I made it in the Gamecube board ...

  10. I think Mario Kart: Double Dash lived up to the hype. I don't think MP or Soul Calibur 2 did at all. Metroid Prime was an awesome game and I liked it alot, but I HATED it at first because people were basically comparing it to sliced bread. I had the first Soul Calibur for Dreamcast, and the second was basically the same game.

MK: DD, PoP its good just not that good, imo and lastely RE Zero.
    May Peace Be With You

  14. Nah, Mario Kart was way too easy. It just sparked anything new, I think Nintendo tried too hard with the whole double-dash thing. And the best part of the franchise, the BATTLE MODE, sucked! They had no good battle maps ... huge let down.

I think they should add a 200cc next time.

I actually REALLY HATE Mario Kart: Double Dash!!, so I think that would be it.

    Skies of Arcadia: Legends

It did so many things in the engine that didn't make sense and random encounters are gay if you don't do it right or like Chrono Trigger.

  17. MK: DD because well it just wasn't lasting or fun like MK 64. Man i played that for hours with my brother. MK: DD just doesn't have that effect on me.

Ummm RE:0 in some way, and Super Monkey Ball, its good but I thought it would be easier than that heh.

Double Dash is definetley at the top of the list. Mario Sunshine and Tales of Symphonia also come to mind.

Beyblade Super Tournament Battle. With a name containing that much star appeal, how could one not be hyped over it? Sigh.

Eh, my real selection would be Star Fox Adventures.
