    Your opinions of the DS

Well now that the wait is finally over, I want to hear what you all think of it. I personally love it. I bought Mario 64 DS and Feel the Magic:XY/XX. The control scheme for Mario was pretty awkward at first, but I've grown used to it already. The game is so much better than the original, I've already noticed several differences and unlocked a bunch of mini games. I've yet to unlock Mario, Luigi, or Wario however.
Feel the Magic is awesome. It uses all of the DS' features perfectly. There's one game where you have to yell into the mic to get the girl's attention. Like you have to yell REALLY loud. My parents were all like "WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU DOING!?" Hahaha. It's a really funny and really addictive game, I definitely reccomend this one.
So everyone else who got one today, what do you think?

I really like it too...... I have also noticed some differences in Mario 64 DS...... And I dont really understand everyones complaints with the controlls.....it works just fine.....sure its not quite the same with no true analog but still..... This is the only game I bought so far because I dont have enough money for more.... one thing about Mario is that the same stars that were in it before are atually a little bit different to get..... some of them take a little more effort too.... Like getting the penguin t o it's mom....you first have to go down to the very bottom and get the hat and then go all the way back to the top so that you can grab a hold of the penguin....because if you try to put him in yoshis mouth it says that he tastes bad and will give you cavities..... little differences liuke that actually change the game alot.

Oh and by the way....it looks way better than the 64.

  3. My opinion, as a non-owner:

The DS, as it is right now and for the next few months, does not appeal to me. The game that pretty much interests me the most, Mario Kart, is not scheduled to come out until September of 2005. I was thinking Q1-Q2.... but when I saw that, I was like "holy shit". It does not appear to be as innovative as Nintendo was claiming. It just seems as though they were walking through their Hall of Fame and saw the Game & Watch collection and thought "Shit, we've still got a shitload of silver cases for these bitches, we should really put something together".

The biggest game for the system is a seven year-old port with a few new features - typical Nintendo. Not that it is bad, just typical. The game was a hit once, so why not try to make it a hit twice? Other than that the system does not seem to have much going for it. The system is about games, and all the games I want are in the distance. I'd like to have some war / strategy games to play on the go, which I think would make the best use out of that touch screen. And when I mean war game, I mean a game like "Conflict Zone", one of my personal favorites on the Dreamcast.

I also see the system's main points as being one of it's main downfalls. I mean, how do they make Tony Hawk for that system using the screen? What about Unreal Tournament or something? For certain genres / games it just does not work. For most games the bottom screen will just be for maps, far from innovative like Nintendo promised, but still useful.

Nintendo DS..... I'll see you when you're below $100 and you have many more games that interest me.

  4. I'll see it when more games come out. I'm not worried about the price tag. I did play Mario 64 at my Gamestop today and I liked it. The feel is very good once you get used to it and the system's controls are very easy to get a fix on.
"A-I-D-A. Attention, Interest, Decision, Action. Attention - Do I have your attention? Interest - Are you interested? I know you are, because it's fuck or walk. You close or you hit the bricks. Decision - Have you made your decision for Christ? And Action." (Alec Baldwin in Glengarry Glen Ross)

  5. Oh yeah, and virtually every game is going to have a $39.99 price point. Screw that, I had trouble with the $29.99 for GBA games.

^a few new features???? There are a TON of new features. I d the SNES ports on the GBA. Why do I like this mario 64 so much? Multiplayer, 30 stars, 4 different characters, and all those mini games are not good enough to be considered addons?

i love it so far. Best handheld ever for sure. I dont see how anyone could it after playing it for 10 minutes. The controls are hard to use at first, but after a while it becomes 2nd nature. At first I used the D-pad for mario, but now i use the strap, and its not that big of a hassle to use. The only issues I have with mario 64 is camera problems, but i think i will get use to that eventually as well.

The system was worth every cent though. Nintendo DS>>>>>anything else out there.

^Yeah I've had a little trouble with the camera too. Like you can't adjust it while you're moving which is annoying. But I'm getting along great so far and this isn't really something I'm too worried about. I've unlocked Mario now, can't wait to try out Luigi and Wario.

  8. I LOVE THE DS.

Bought Mario 64 DS and I love it. I've been playing the mini-games so much. I just started the adventure game and found 1 star so far. I also like that Metroid game. The controls were confusing at first but I think it's gonna be a pretty tight game when it comes out.

I hate the thumbstrap. It's just so weird. I either use my right thumb to press a button on screen or the stylus.

The mini games in Mario 64 are bad ass.

    Like what?

I'll just use it to play GBA games for a while other than Super Mario 64 DS.

  13. Dual screens - Game & Watch

Touch screen - Palm / Pocket PCs

Wireless multiplayer - GBA (Pokemone Fire Red / Leaf Green)

Single cartridge multiplayer - GBA (Mario Kart)

WiFi multiplayer (plus online) - Not sure off hand what others do this

Built in microphone for game commands and possible voice over IP phone calls - DS, yes

Dual cartridge slots - Palm / Pocket PCs

Downloadable demos - Palm / Pocket PCs

Downloadable game upgrades - Palm / Pocket PCs

    Pictochat - Innovation? Psh.

    Backlit - GBA SP

Long battery life - GBA SP

Backwards GBA compatability - Certainly a nice feature to have, but not an "innovation". Gameboy Player for the GCN.

So then the Xbox has no new features I guess.

To spout Xbox fan ideology, it doesn't matter how new it is or what else uses it, this is the first to combine it all and do it well.

  15. I got mine yesterday along with Mario 64DS
I'm loving it until now, I really got used to using my thumb in the screen as a control stick. I've found a lot of the game textures to be a lot better than the original. Just look at the bunnies or bowser. They look way better.

Oh, what other console came with a build-in harddrive that did not require memory cards to save games? How about custom soundtrack features? Built-in ethernet?

The DS is not "innovative" - it merely improves on what is out there.

  17. Cartridge based consoles didn't required memory cards.

  18. Last I checked my N64 did.

  19. Only the games that cheap developers released.

  20. Adam Adam Adam ... you're comparing a handheld to a console, two different ball parks.
