Rumor: Peter Moore to replace John Riccitiello as EA CEO

Here’s a massive rumor for you: GameFront has been told a source close to the matter EA CEO John Riccitiello will be replaced by EA Sports boss Peter Moore. The news is set to be announced after July 30 earnings call, when Riccitiello will be asked to step down as CEO.

Again, take this with a grain of salt for now, but if true, this is huge news.

The source stated that while Moore replacing Riccitiello was not set in stone, as the board has yet to vote on the matter, the source said there’s a “general feeling of tension throughout EA’s studios,” due to the company’s falling stock prices.

Riccitiello has been CEO of EA since 2007, after a a hiatus when he originally left the firm in April 2004 as well as his position as COO.

Since returning, Riccitiello has overseen the Origin platform and the recent decision to point the company in an all digital direction.

That would be really bad news for the Dreamcast.

Real question is, does anyone (beside shareholders) care?

If Moore undoes the damage Ricitello did with Origin (i.e. dropping all good games off of other services like Steam and forcing you to use Origin, even if it makes no sense at all), then yes, I would care. Not a whole lot, but a little bit sure.

^That's wishful thinking. They will do anything they can to make money, and not to be pro consumer :P Would be nice though.

See... that's the point. Can you imagine that EA makes more money now off of Origin, than they lost by pulling their other games off of Steam?

^I would imagine they do make more, simply due to the fact that they get to keep all the money from the transaction, instead of having a middle man. Steam takes a damn big cut.

Still, Steam being a much bigger service than Origin, that has to factor in. Not that it really matters to me anymore (couldn't care less about ME3 and BF3 anymore).

Personally I wish there was just Steam for any PC games, but hey, we can't be that lucky I suppose.

Nooo... there needs to be competition. although I still consider Valve to be "the good guys" in that regard. I wouldn't miss GOG for example, though I haven't bought anything there, yet.

I am eagerly waiting for Steam Linux and "Big Picture Mode" (i.e. gamepad controllable UI for Steam). That will make the PC into a real console.
