Is the PS3/Vita Combo a viable bundle option?

I've been thinking about this a lot lately. There are those that always quote the accumulative price of both the Vita and the PS3 when it comes to adding in these features, but they always forget that for at least 65 million PS3 owners it would only be the price of a Vita that concerns them. but this isn't really what I want to say:

First of all Sony would have to allow all PS3 games to be streamable through the Vita. Do this too early and it could have a negative effect on Vita software sales... that's only a 'could' though. But we are looking at a possible three bundle option for Sony if they play their cards right and I believe it's more viable than people imagine to have the Vita/PS3 bundle.

Bundle 1: This bundle would be a MOVE only bundle. This bundle would come with a MOVE game or two and would be an obvious Christmas addition. Those games could be Sorcery, Wonderbook or Sports Champion 2 and of course, Okami HD. It would be aimed primarily at the 'family' market.

Bundle 2: This bundle would be the traditional bundle with perhaps as extra dualshock included. It could come with any games that are coming out around Christmas

Bundle 3: The Vita/PS3 bundle. Many have said that it would probably be too expensive for Sony to release and that the price would put consumers off, but they're overlooking an essential piece of information. This bundle could release 'without' the duelshock controller, but instead it could come with the official clip on grips and would be bundled with LBP2/Plus the DLC for crossplay, or any other titles that Sony are readying. It would still be more expensive than the other two bundles but it could fall within the range of the WiiU (depending on it's price). even if it wasn't as cheap, providing it is close in price, it would be a tempting offer for many consumers

So, in conclusion, I have to say that I think, 'yes' it IS a viable option

what? You've lost me. The Vita with the grip add on becomes the controller:

  4. Everything is a viable option. I am not sure I follow why. Is this so PlayStation can become WiiU?

Maybe something to gap the time between WiiU and PS4 might be a good idea. But I don't think replacing Dualshock with VITA makes the bundle more affordable (one is £40, the other is £280).

And image wise it makes VITA look like PS3's companion rather than a format on it's own. Streaming PS3 games to VITA destroys the image further. For me personally the amount of ports is bad enough for VITA. I think VITA's biggest problem is it's lack of identity and all this makes the problem worse. Basically you are taking a format touted as a stand-alone gaming experience in your palms and saying "actually nah it's more just a friend to PS3.". I don't think that is the way they want to go and Yoshida recently said that in his mind VITA is just starting.

It is an interesting idea but not worth the hassle for me in any way and completely destroys VITA's image. So for those reasons; I am out.

You guys should really watch that Zombie U demo. Looking between the TV and the Wii U controller screen every few seconds does not look like fun and the game loses a lot of immersion. Im starting to have second thoughts about this new way of playing games.

I've always had doubts about playing games like this. This is why I think the only viable way of making games this way is to use the Vita as something you would normal press a button for on the game, such as a menu, stats or maps... not while the game is still playing. I recently watched a video in which a young kid was playing a Wiiu game. I can't remember which one it was but he never once looked at the TV. he just played the whole thing on his controller. so what's the point in the Wiiu? There is a good point to the Vita/PS3 combo, and that is the Vita is also a standalone handheld and can be played outside.

I can't agree that it confuses the identity of the Vita, the vita will be what people want it to be

Although they would be great, I don't see Sony making any moves in that direction.

And like I told another person, although the Ps3/Vita bundle is a great competitor to the Wii, the fact that it lack an IR sensor currently puts it at a disadvantage a bit.
